DTC : P0589-15 (2016 2017 2018)
DTC P0589-15 : Main Switch Signal Circuit Open
NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information - Go to: How to Troubleshoot the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) (2016 2017 2018) .
- Problem verification
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
Clear DTCs
- 3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for at least 5 seconds.
- 5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0589-15 indicated?
YES
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to intermittent failures troubleshooting - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) (2016 2017 2018) . If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the Freeze data/on-board snapshot.
- Open wire check (CRUISE SW line) 1
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connector.
ACC combination switch 12P connector - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected Test point 1 ACC combination switch 12P connector No. 2 Test point 2 Body ground Is there about 5 V?
YES
The CRUISE SW wire is not open. Go to step 3.
NO
Go to step 7.
- ACC combination switch internal circuit check
- 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected Test point 1 ACC combination switch 12P connector No. 2 Test point 2 ACC combination switch 12P connector No. 5 Is there about 5 V?
YES
Replace the ACC Combination Switch (2016 2017 20018) .
NO
Go to step 4.
- Open wire check (DISTANCE SW GND line) 1
- 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the cable reel connector C (20P).
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected Test point 1 Cable reel connector C (20P) No. 16 Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
Repair an open in the wire between the ACC combination switch and the cable reel.
NO
Go to step 5.
- Open wire check (DISTANCE SW GND line) 2
- 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the cable reel connector A (20P).
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected Test point 1 Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 4 Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
Replace the Cable Reel .
NO
Go to step 6.
- Open wire check (CRUISE SW GND line) 4
- 1. Disconnect the following connector.
Cable reel connector A (20P) Gauge control module 32P connector - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the gauge control module connector A (32P).
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Cable reel connector A (20P) : disconnected Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected Test point 1 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 20 - Refer to:
Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)Test point 2 Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 4 Is there continuity?
YES
The DISTANCE SW GND wire is not open. Replace the Gauge Control Module .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the cable reel.
- Open wire check (CRUISE SW line) 2
- 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the cable reel connector C (20P).
Test condition Vehicle ON mode ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected Test point 1 Cable reel connector C (20P) No. 15 Test point 2 Body ground Is there about 5 V?
YES
Repair an open in the wire between the ACC combination switch and the cable reel.
NO
Go to step 8.
- Open wire check (CRUISE SW line) 3
- 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the cable reel connector A (20P).
Test condition Vehicle ON mode ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected Test point 1 Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 3 Test point 2 Body ground Is there about 5 V?
YES
Replace the Cable Reel .
NO
Go to step 9.
- Open wire check (CRUISE SW line) 4
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connector.
Cable reel connector A (20P) Gauge control module 32P connector - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2 without disconnect the gauge control module connector A (32P).
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Cable reel connector A (20P) : disconnected Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected ACC combination switch 12P connector: disconnected Test point 1 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 30 - Refer to:
Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)Test point 2 Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 3 Is there continuity?
YES
The CRUISE SW wire is not open. Replace the Gauge Control Module .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the cable reel.
