EXTERNAL MEDIA PLAYER UNIT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY (With DVD Player Unit) (2016 2017 2018)

NOTE:  Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first - Refer to:

12 Volt Battery Test (With Auto Idle Stop System) or

12 Volt Battery Test (Without Auto Idle Stop System) .

1. Problem verification 1

   -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 2. Insert an audio disc to the DVD player unit.

   Is the audio disc inserted correctly?

   YES 

   The failure is not duplicated, go to step 2.

   NO 

   The failure is duplicated, go to step 6.

2. Problem verification 2

   -1. Check if the display changes to the CD mode and the audio disc is played.

   Does the display change to the CD mode, and is the audio disc played?

   YES 

   Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

   NO: No sound

   Go to step 12.

   NO: Does not change to CD mode

   Go to step 3.

   NO: Audio disc does not play

   Go To: Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - Audio disc does not play 

3. Shorted wire check (GA BUS+, GA BUS- lines)

   -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

   Audio unit connector D (12P)

   Tuner unit connector A (12P)

   DVD player unit connector A (24P)

   Rear controller and screen connector A (24P)

   - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Audio unit connector D (12P) disconnected
   	Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
   	DVD player unit connector A (24P) disconnected
   	Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) disconnected
   Test circuit 1
   Test point 1	Audio unit connector D (12P) No. 1 - Refer to: Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Display Audio Type (8-inch Screen)] (2016 2017 2018) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2016 2017) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2018) .
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Test circuit 2
   Test point 1	Audio unit connector D (12P) No. 7 - Refer to: Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Display Audio Type (8-inch Screen)] (2016 2017 2018) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2016 2017) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2018) .
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the DVD player unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

   NO 

   The GA BUS+ and the GA BUS- wires are not shorted. Go to step 4.

4. Shorted wire check (GA BUS+ line to GA BUS- line)

   -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Audio unit connector D (12P) disconnected
   	Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
   	DVD player unit connector A (24P) disconnected
   	Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) disconnected
   Test point 1	Audio unit connector D (12P) No. 1 - Refer to: Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Display Audio Type (8-inch Screen)] (2016 2017 2018) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2016 2017) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2018) .
   Test point 2	Audio unit connector D (12P) No. 7 - Refer to: Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Display Audio Type (8-inch Screen)] (2016 2017 2018) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2016 2017) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2018) .

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the DVD player unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

   NO 

   The GA BUS+ wire and the GA BUS- wire are not shorted. Go to step 5.

5. Open wire check (GA BUS+, GA BUS- lines)

   -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Audio unit connector D (12P) disconnected
   	Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
   	DVD player unit connector A (24P) disconnected
   	Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) disconnected
   Test circuit 1

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   DVD Player Unit Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) .

   NO 

   There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the DVD player unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

6. Determine possible failure area (GA +B and GND lines, others)

   -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

   Tuner unit connector A (12P)

   DVD player unit connector A (24P)

   Rear controller and screen connector A (24P)

   - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
   	DVD player unit connector A (24P) disconnected

   	Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) disconnected
   Test point 1	DVD player unit connector A (24P) No. 12
   Test point 2	DVD player unit connector A (24P) No. 13

   Is there battery voltage?

   YES 

   Go to step 9.

   NO 

   Go to step 7.

7. Determine possible failure area (GA +B line, GND line)

   -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
   	DVD player unit connector A (24P) disconnected
   	Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) disconnected
   Test point 1	DVD player unit connector A (24P) No. 12
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there battery voltage?

   YES 

   Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the DVD player unit.

   NO 

   Go to step 8.

8. Open wire check (GA +B line)

   -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
   	DVD player unit connector A (24P) disconnected
   	Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) disconnected
   Test point 1	Audio unit connector D (12P) No. 12 - Refer to: Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Display Audio Type (8-inch Screen)] (2016 2017 2018) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2016 2017) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2018) .
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there battery voltage?

   YES 

   Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the DVD player unit.

   NO 

   Replace the audio unit - Refer to:

   Audio Unit Removal and Installation [Display Audio Type (8-inch Screen)] (2016 2017 2018) or

   Audio Unit Removal and Installation [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] .

9. Determine possible failure area (GA SYS ON line, others)

   -1. Reconnect the DVD player unit connector A (24P).

   - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
   	Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) disconnected
   Test point 1	Audio unit connector D (12P) No. 8 - Refer to: Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Display Audio Type (8-inch Screen)] (2016 2017 2018) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2016 2017) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2018) .
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there about 3.0 V?

   YES 

   Go to step 11.

   NO 

   Go to step 10.

10. Open wire check (GA SYS ON line)

    -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    	Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
    	Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) disconnected
    Test point 1	DVD player unit connector A (24P) No. 11
    Test point 2	Body ground

    Is there about 3.0 V?

    YES 

    Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the DVD player unit.

    NO 

    Replace the DVD player unit.DVD Player Unit Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) .

11. Audio unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition	Vehicle ON mode
    	Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
    	Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) disconnected
    Test point 1	Audio unit connector D (12P) No. 8 - Refer to: Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Display Audio Type (8-inch Screen)] (2016 2017 2018) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2016 2017) or Audio Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] (2018) .
    Test point 2	Body ground

    Is there less than 0.2 V?

    YES 

    Replace the DVD player unit.DVD Player Unit Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) .

    NO 

    Replace the audio unit - Refer to:

    Audio Unit Removal and Installation [Display Audio Type (8-inch Screen)] (2016 2017 2018) or

    Audio Unit Removal and Installation [Color Audio Type (5-inch Screen)] .

12. Open wire check (SPDIF line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Audio unit connector K (5P)

    DVD player unit connector B (2P)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    	Audio unit connector K (5P) disconnected
    	DVD player unit connector B (2P) disconnected

    Test point 2	DVD player unit connector B (2P) No. 1

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The SPDIF wire is not open. Go to step 13.

    NO 

    There is an open in the wire between the audio unit and the DVD player unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

13. Shorted wire check (SPDIF line to SH (SPDIF) line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    	Audio unit connector K (5P) disconnected
    	DVD player unit connector B (2P) disconnected
    Test point 1	DVD player unit connector B (2P) No. 1
    Test point 2	DVD player unit connector B (2P) No. 2

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the DVD player unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO 

    The SPDIF wires are not shorted. Go to step 14.

14. Shorted wire check (SPDIF line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    	Audio unit connector K (5P) disconnected
    	DVD player unit connector B (2P) disconnected
    Test point 1	DVD player unit connector B (2P) No. 1
    Test point 2	Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the DVD player unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO
