AM/FM RADIO DISPLAY IS BLANK OR NO STATION INFORMATION IS DISPLAYED (With Navigation) (2016 2017 2018)

NOTE:  Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first - Refer to:

12 Volt Battery Test (With Auto Idle Stop System) or

12 Volt Battery Test (Without Auto Idle Stop System) .

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Turn on the audio system, and select AM or FM.

    Does the AM or the FM radio station information display blank?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the AM or FM sound is not heard, Go To:  .

    Poor Or No Sound With AM/FM Radio (With Navigation) (2016 2017 2018) .

  2. DTC check

    -1. Check for hard error codes.

    Refer to: How To Troubleshoot The Audio System

    Is DTC 1406 indicated?

    YES 

    Go To DTC 1406 Troubleshooting .

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Determine possible failure area (GA +B and GND lines, others)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Tuner unit connector A (12P)
    CD player unit 16P connector (with CD player unit)
    BD player unit connector A (12P) (with BD player unit)
    Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) (with rear entertainment)

    - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
      CD player unit 16P connector (with CD player unit) disconnected
      BD player unit connector A (12P) (with BD player unit) disconnected
      Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) (with rear entertainment) disconnected
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector A (12P) No. 6 - Refer to:
    Tuner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)
    Test point 2 Tuner unit connector A (12P) No. 12 - Refer to:
    Tuner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Go to step 4.

  4. Determine possible failure area (GA +B line, GND line)

    -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
      CD player unit 16P connector (with CD player unit) disconnected
      BD player unit connector A (12P) (with BD player unit) disconnected
      Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) (with rear entertainment) disconnected
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector A (12P) No. 12 - Refer to: Tuner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Repair an open in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the tuner unit.

    NO 

    Go to step 5.

  5. Open wire check (GA +B line)

    -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
      CD player unit 16P connector (with CD player unit) disconnected
      BD player unit connector A (12P) (with BD player unit) disconnected
      Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) (with rear entertainment) disconnected
    Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector D (12P) No. 12 - Refer to:
    Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) or
    Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018) .
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Repair an open in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the tuner unit.

    NO 

    Audio-Navigation Unit Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) .

  6. Determine possible failure area (GA SYS ON line, others)

    -1. Reconnect the tuner unit connector A (12P)

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector D (12P) No. 8 - Refer to:
    Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) or
    Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018) .
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Go to step 7.

  7. Open wire check (GA SYS ON line)

    -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector A (12P) No. 8 - Refer to:Tuner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Repair an open in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the tuner unit.

    NO 

    Replace the tuner unit - Refer to:

  8. Tuner Unit Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) .

  9. Audio-navigation unit check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector D (12P) No. 8 - Refer to:
    Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) or
    Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018) .
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there less than 0.2 V?

    YES 

    Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Audio-Navigation Unit Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) .

  10. Shorted wire check (GA BUS+, GA BUS- lines)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Audio-navigation unit connector D (12P)
    Tuner unit connector A (12P)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector D (12P) disconnected
      Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
      CD player unit 16P connector (with CD player unit) disconnected
      BD player unit connector A (12P) (with BD player unit) disconnected
      Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) (with rear entertainment) disconnected
    Test circuit 1  
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector A (12P) No. 1 - Refer to: Tuner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)
    Test point 2 Body ground
    Test circuit 2  
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector A (12P) No. 7 - Refer to:Tuner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs 2016 2017 2018)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the tuner unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO 

    The GA BUS+ and the GA BUS- wires are not shorted. Go to step 10.

  11. Shorted wire check (GA BUS+ line to GA BUS- line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector D (12P) disconnected
      Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
      CD player unit 16P connector (with CD player unit) disconnected
      BD player unit connector A (12P) (with BD player unit) disconnected
      Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) (with rear entertainment) disconnected
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector A (12P) No. 1 - Refer to:Tuner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs 2016 2017 2018)
    Test point 2 Tuner unit connector A (12P) No. 7 - Refer to: Tuner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs 2016 2017 2018)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the tuner unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO 

    The GA BUS+ wire and the GA BUS- wire are not shorted. Go to step 11.

  12. Open wire check (GA BUS+, GA BUS- lines)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector D (12P) disconnected
      Tuner unit connector A (12P) disconnected
      CD player unit 16P connector (with CD player unit) disconnected
      BD player unit connector A (12P) (with BD player unit) disconnected
      Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) (with rear entertainment) disconnected
    Test circuit 1  
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector A (12P) No. 1 - Refer to: Tuner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)
    Test point 2 Audio-navigation unit connector D (12P) No. 1 - Refer to:
    Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) or
    Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018) .
    Test circuit 2  
    Test point 1 Tuner unit connector A (12P) No. 7 - Refer to: Tuner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)
    Test point 2 Audio-navigation unit connector D (12P) No. 7 - Refer to:
    Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) or
    Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018) .

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The GA BUS+ and the GA BUS- wires are OK. Go to step 12.

    NO 

    There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the tuner unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

  13. Tuner unit check (substitution)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Substitute a known-good tuner unit, and recheck.

    - 3. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.

    Does the symptom go away?

    YES 

    Replace the original tuner unit.

    NO
