ABS INDICATOR, BRAKE SYSTEM INDICATOR (RED), VSA INDICATOR, AND BRAKE SYSTEM INDICATOR (AMBER) DO NOT GO OFF [Without Auto Idle Stop System] (2016 2017 2018)

NOTE:  Complete the VSA sensor neutral position memorization first if the modulator or the steering angle sensor is replaced.

  1. All DTCs check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. All DTCs check with the HDS.

    All DTCs

    Are there DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Go to step 2.

  2. Fuse check 1

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. A1-4 (20 A)
    Location Under-hood fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 3.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair the short to ground on the No. A1-4 (20 A) fuse circuit.

  3. Fuse check 2

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. C9 (7.5 A)
    Location Under-dash fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 4.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. C9 (7.5A) fuse circuit.

  4. Open wire check (FSR +B line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 4 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021) .
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The FSR +B wire is OK. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the FSR +B wire between the No. A1-4 (20 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the VSA modulator-control unit.

  5. IG1A relay check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Remove the IG1A relay from the under-dash fuse/relay box, and test it.

    Is the relay OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Replace the IG1A relay.

  6. Open wire check (IG1 VSA line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    IG1A relay: removed
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 IG1A relay 4P socket No. 2
    Test point 2 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 11 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021) .

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The IG1 VSA wire is OK. Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the IG1 VSA wire between the IG1A relay in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the VSA modulator-control unit.

  7. Open wire check (+B IG MAIN2)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    IG1A relay: removed
    Test point 1 IG1A relay 4P socket No. 1
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The +B IG MAIN2 wire is OK. Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the +B IG MAIN2 wire between the No.B1-5 (30A) fuse in the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box and the IG1A relay in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

  8. Open wire check (IG1 RLY CL line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector B (36P)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    IG1A relay: removed
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector B (36P): disconnected
    Test point 1 IG1A relay 4P socket No. 4
    Test point 2 Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector B (36P) No. 17 - Refer to:
    Keyless Access/TPMS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021) or
    Keyless Access/TPMS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) .

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The IG1 RLY CL wire is OK. Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the IG1 RLY CL wire between the Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector B (36P) and the IG1A relay in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

  9. Open wire check (SMART RLY GND line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector B (36P)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    IG1A relay: removed
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector B (36P): disconnected
    Test point 1 IG1A relay 4P socket No. 3
    Test point 2 Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector B (36P) No. 35 - Refer to:
    Keyless Access/TPMS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021) or
    Keyless Access/TPMS Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) .

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The SMART RLY GND wire is OK. Go to step 10.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the SMART RLY GND wire between the Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector B (36P) and the IG1A relay in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

  10. Open wire check (PGND line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 1 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The PGND wire is OK. Go to step 11.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the PGND wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and body ground (G203).

  11. Open wire check (F-CAN_H, F-CAN_L lines)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector
    Gauge control module 32P connector

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector: disconnected
    Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 6 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021) 
    Test point 2 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 24 - Refer to:
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2020 2021) .
    Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 7 - Refer to:
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019 2020 2021)  or
    VSA Modulator-Control Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) .
    Test point 2 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 24 - Refer to:
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019) or
    Gauge Control Module Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2020 2021) .

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN_H and F-CAN_L wires are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN_H and/or F-CAN_L wire between the gauge control module and the VSA modulator-control unit.
