DTC U1204 : EP-CAN Malfunction (Battery Charge Control Module - PCM)
DTC U1603 : EP-CAN Malfunction (Battery Charge Control Module - Battery Condition Monitor Module A)
- Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information .
- According to the detected DTC(s), check for the power circuit and the ground circuit of the control unit which cannot communicate with the battery charge control module.

DTC (Electric Powertrain)
- CAN gateway system DTC check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
-2. Check for CAN gateway system DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC DTC (CAN Gateway)
Are any DTCs indicated?
YES
Go to the troubleshooting for CAN gateway system DTC(s) .
NO
Go to step 2.
- F-CAN circuit communication check (Receiving control unit)
-1. Select the Function Test in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

Bus E is Not Available
Go to step 3.
Bus E is Available
Go to step 4.
- Open wire check (EPP-CAN A_H line, EPP-CAN A_L line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure .
-3. Disconnect the following connectors.
CAN gateway 16P connector Battery charge control module connector B (40P) -4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected Battery charge control module connector B (40P): disconnected Test point 1 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 16: Test point 2 Battery charge control module connector B (40P) No. 2 Test point 1 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 8: Test point 2 Battery charge control module connector B (40P) No. 22 Is there continuity?
YES
The EPP-CAN A_H wire and the EPP-CAN A_L wire are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTC(s) or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good battery charge control module .
NO
Repair an open in the EPP-CAN A_H wire or the EPP-CAN A_L wire between the battery charge control module and the CAN gateway.
- Open wire check (EPP-CAN A_H line, EPP-CAN A_L line) 1
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
According to the detected DTC on the following table, disconnect the transmitting control unit connector(s).
NOTE:- Before disconnecting the PCM connector, jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait for more than 1 minute, and do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure .
- Before disconnecting the IPU connector, do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure , and remove the service plug .
DTC Connector - CAN gateway 16P connector U1204 PCM connector A (50P) U1603 IPU 33P connector -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

The EPP-CAN A_H wire and the EPP-CAN A_L wire are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTC(s) or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good PCM .
YES (U1603)
Go to step 5.
NO
Repair an open in the EPP-CAN A_H wire or the EPP-CAN A_L wire between the PCM and the CAN gateway.
- Open wire check (EPP-CAN A_H line, EPP-CAN A_L line) 2
-1. Remove the IPU .
-2. Remove the IPU cover .
-3. Disconnect the following connector.
Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P) -4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected IPU 33P connector: disconnected Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P): disconnected Test point 1 IPU 33P connector (male terminals) No. 12: Test point 2 Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P) No. 11 Test point 1 IPU 33P connector (male terminals) No. 13: Test point 2 Battery condition monitor module A connector G (24P) No. 23 Is there continuity?
YES
The EPP-CAN A_H wire and the EPP-CAN A_L wire are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTC(s) or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good battery condition monitor module A .
NO
Repair an open in the EPP-CAN A_H wire or the EPP-CAN A_L wire between the IPU 33P connector and battery condition monitor module A.
