Real Time AWD System Symptom Troubleshooting - HDS does not communicate

  1. HDS communication check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Check that the HDS communicates with the vehicle.

    Does the HDS communicate with the vehicle?

    YES 

    The HDS communication is OK. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting .

  2. Real time AWD system communication check

    -1. Check the Main Menu of the REAL TIME AWD with the HDS.

    Does the HDS show the Main Menu of the REAL TIME AWD?

    YES 

    The real time AWD system communication is OK. Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Fuse check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Check the following fuses.

    Fuse No. A4-3
      No. B7

    Are the fuses OK?

    YES 

    The fuses are OK. Reinstall the fuses, then go to step 4.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse(s). If the fuse(s) blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. A4-3 and/or the No. B7 fuse circuit, then recheck.

  4. CAN gateway system DTC check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Check for CAN gateway system DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
       

    Are any DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting .

    NO 

    Go to step 5.

  5. F-CAN circuit communication check (Receiving control unit)

    -1. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

    Which result is indicated?

    AWD CONTROL UNIT is Detected

    Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good AWD control unit , then recheck. If this DTC goes away and the AWD control unit was substituted, replace the original AWD control unit .

    AWD CONTROL UNIT is Not Available

    Go to step 6.

  6. Rear differential fluid pressure sensor check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Check the Main Menu of the REAL TIME AWD with the HDS.

    Does the HDS show the Main Menu of the REAL TIME AWD?

    YES 

    Replace the rear differential fluid pressure sensor .

    NO 

    The rear differential fluid pressure sensor is OK. Go to step 7.

  7. Open wire check (IG1_METER line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Real time AWD control unit 24P connector

    -3. Enter the maintenance mode and start the engine .

    -4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode (idling)
      Rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected
      Real time AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Real time AWD control unit 24P connector No. 12 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The IG1_METER wire is OK. Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the IG1_METER wire between the real time AWD control unit and the No. B7 fuse.

  8. Open wire check (+B_E-DPS line)

    -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode (idling)
      Rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected
      AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 AWD control unit 24P connector No. 2 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The +B_E-DPS wire is OK. Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the +B_E-DPS wire between the real time AWD control unit and the No. A4-3 fuse.

  9. Open wire check (GND line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected
      AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 AWD control unit 24P connector No. 8 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

    YES 

    The GND wire is OK. Go to step 10.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the GND wire between the AWD control unit and ground (G503).

  10. Shorted wire check (SVCC line)

    -1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected
      AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 AWD control unit 24P connector No. 20 
    Test point 2 Body ground

    1.0 MΩ or more?

    YES 

    The SVCC wire is OK. Go to step 11.

    NO 

    Repair a short to ground in the SVCC wire between the AWD control unit and the rear differential fluid pressure sensor.

  11. Open wire check (F-CAN D_H line, F-CAN D_L line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    CAN gateway 16P connector

    -2. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2 individually.

    F-CAN D_H wire 

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected
      AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 AWD control unit 24P connector No. 14 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 7:

    F-CAN D_L wire 

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected
    AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected
    CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 AWD control unit 24P connector No. 24 
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 15:

    Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

    YES 

    The F-CAN D_H wire and the F-CAN D_L wire are OK. Go to step 12.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN D_H wire and/or the F-CAN D_L wire between the AWD control unit and the CAN gateway.

  12. Open wire check (DIAG-CAN_H line, DIAG-CAN_L line)

    -1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2 individually.

    DIAG-CAN_H wire 

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected
      AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 2:
    Test point 2 DLC (16P) (female terminals) No. 6:

    DIAG-CAN_L wire 

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Rear differential fluid pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected
    AWD control unit 24P connector: disconnected
    CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 10:
    Test point 2 DLC (16P) (female terminals) No. 14:

    Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

    YES 

    The DIAG-CAN_H wire and the DIAG-CAN_L wire are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good AWD control unit , then recheck. If this DTC goes away and the AWD control unit was substituted, replace the original AWD control unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the DIAG-CAN_H wire and/or the DIAG-CAN_L wire between the CAN gateway and the DLC.
