DTC P158E  : HV Battery Current Sensor 2 Circuit Low

NOTE:  Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information .

DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame
P158E HV Battery Current Sensor 2 Circuit Low      

DTC (Electric Powertrain)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -5. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    P158E HV Battery Current Sensor 2 Circuit Low      

    Is DTC P158E indicated?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the freeze data/on-board snapshot.

  2. DTC check

    -1. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame
    P06B1 HV Battery Current Sensor Power Supply Circuit Low      

    Is DTC P06B1 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to the DTC P06B1 troubleshooting .

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Determine possible failure area (VCCISOC line, others)

    -1. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    P158D HV Battery Current Sensor 1 Circuit Low      
    P158E HV Battery Current Sensor 2 Circuit Low      

    Are DTC P158D and P158E indicated at the same time?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Go to step 5.

  4. Open wire check (VCCISOC line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Remove the service plug and the IPU cover .

    -3. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P)
    Battery current sensor 4P connector

    -4. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P): disconnected
      Battery current sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P) No. 28
    Test point 2 Battery current sensor 4P connector (female terminals) No. 1:

    Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

    YES 

    Substitute a known-good battery current sensor , then recheck. If DTC P158E is still indicated, replace the battery condition monitor module .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the VCCISOC wire between the battery current sensor and the battery condition monitor module (E28).

  5. Determine possible failure area (short in ISOCF circuit, others)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Remove the service plug and the IPU cover .

    -3. Disconnect the following connector.

    Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P)

    -4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P) No. 27
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Go to step 7.

  6. Shorted wire check (ISOCF line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    Battery current sensor 4P connector

    -2. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P): disconnected
      Battery current sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P) No. 27
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there 1 MΩ or more?

    YES 

    The ISOCF wire is OK. Substitute a known-good battery current sensor , then recheck. If DTC P158E is still indicated, replace the battery condition monitor module .

    NO 

    Repair a short in the ISOCF wire between the battery current sensor and the battery condition monitor module (E27).

  7. Battery condition monitor module internal circuit (ISOCF) check

    -1. Reconnect the following connector.

    Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P)

    -2. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P) No. 28
    Terminal B Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P) No. 27

    -3. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure .

    -4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -5. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -6. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame
    P1596 HV Battery Current Sensor 2 Circuit High      

    Is DTC P1596 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Replace the battery condition monitor module .

  8. Open wire check (ISOCF line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure .

    -3. Remove the IPU and the IPU case .

    -4. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P)
    Battery current sensor 4P connector

    -5. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P): disconnected
      Battery current sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P) No. 27
    Test point 2 Battery current sensor 4P connector (female terminals) No. 3:

    Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

    YES 

    Replace the battery current sensor .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the ISOCF wire between the battery current sensor and the battery condition monitor module (E27).
