Transmission (e-CVT) Removal and Installation: Removal

WARNING:

The power cables carry high voltage when the electric powertrain system is energized. To avoid serious injury from electrical shock, do not turn on the system with the power cables disconnected.

The electric powertrain components are located in this area. The electric powertrain is a high-voltage system. You must be familiar with the electric powertrain system before working on or around it. Make sure you have read the electric powertrain service precautions before doing repairs or service .

NOTE: 

  1. Vehicle - Lift Set
  2. DTC (Electric Powertrain System) - Check
    1. Check for DTCs in the Electric Powertrain system with the HDS. If any DTCs are indicated, record them first, then go to the next step.
  3. Neutral Position Holding Mode - Enter

    NOTE:  Even if the negative terminal of the 12 volt battery is disconnected after the neutral position holding mode is actuated, the vehicle continues to keep the N position.

  4. 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Disconnect
  5. Service Plug - Turn Off

    NOTE:  Do not connect the 12 volt battery terminal to keep the N position.

  6. Hood - Wide Open
  7. 12 Volt Battery - Remove
  8. 12 Volt Battery Base - Remove
  9. Front Bulkhead Cover - Remove
  10. Windshield Wiper Arm - Remove
  11. Center Cowl Cover - Remove
  12. Engine Undercover - Remove
  13. PCU Coolant - Drain
  14. PCU - Remove
  15. Steering Joint - Disconnect
  16. Engine Wire Harness - Remove

    NOTE:  Swing the engine wire harness out of the way.

  17. Harness Cover - Remove

  18. CMP Sensor A - Remove
  19. Engine Support Hanger - Install

    NOTE: 

    • Be careful when working around the windshield.
    • Be careful not to damage the hood opener cable when installing the engine support hanger at the front bulkhead.

    1. Remove the front damper caps.

    2. Remove the radiator cap base .

    3. Remove the hood open stay bracket (A).

    4. Install the sub hanger stay with a commercially available spacer (B).

    NOTE:  Make sure the sub hanger stay does not interfere with the surrounding parts.

    5. Install the engine support hanger onto the vehicle as shown.

    6. Attach the hook (C) to the slotted hole in the sub hanger stay.

    7. Tighten the wing nut (D) by hand, lift and support the engine/transmission (e-CVT).

  20. Transmission Mount - Remove
  21. Upper Transmission (e-CVT) Mounting Bolt - Remove

    NOTE:  Refer to the Exploded View as needed during this procedure.

  22. Vehicle - Lift Up
  23. Front Wheel - Remove (Both Sides)
  24. ATF - Drain
  25. Exhaust Pipe A - Remove
  26. Drive Plate - Disconnect

    		 1. Remove the flywheel cover (A).

    2. Remove eight flywheel bolts (B) while rotating the crankshaft pulley.
  27. Connectors (EPS Motor/Control Unit) - Disconnect
  28. Lower Torque Rod Mounting Bolt - Remove
  29. Lower Arm - Disconnect (Both Sides)
  30. Lower Arm Mounting Bolt - Remove (Both Sides)

  31. Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Disconnect (Both Sides)
  32. Front Stabilizer Link Ball Joint - Disconnect (Both Sides)
  33. Front Subframe - Support

    		 1. Set the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) on a transmission jack (A), line up the slots in the arms with the bolt holes on the corner of the jack base, and tighten the bolts.

    2. Attach the subframe adapter to the front subframe (B).
  34. Front Subframe - Remove
  35. Transmission - Support
    1. Support the transmission with the transmission jack.
  36. Driveshaft Inboard Joint - Disconnect (Both Sides)

    NOTE:  Secure the driveshaft to the body with a nylon strap on both sides.

  37. Intermediate Shaft - Remove
  38. Propeller Shaft - Remove
  39. Ground Cable - Disconnect

  40. ATF Hose (Transmission Side) - Disconnect 

    NOTE:  Turn the ends of the ATF hoses up to prevent ATF from flowing out, then plug the hoses and the lines.

  41. Radiator Inlet Pipe A - Remove

    NOTE:  Remove the necessary part(s).

  42. Lower Transmission (e-CVT) Mounting Bolt - Remove

    NOTE:  Refer to the Exploded View as needed during this procedure.

  43. Transmission (e-CVT) - Remove

    		 1. Check once again that the transmission (e-CVT) (A) is free of hoses and electrical wiring.

    2. Hold the transmission (e-CVT) on the transmission jack.

    3. Lower the transmission (e-CVT) by loosening the wing nut of the engine support hanger, and tilt the engine just enough for the transmission (e-CVT) to clear its end from the side frame.

    4. Slide the transmission (e-CVT) away from the engine, then remove the transmission (e-CVT) from the vehicle.

    5. Lower the transmission (e-CVT) carefully.

    NOTE:  Be careful not to drop the flywheel.
  44. Flywheel - Remove

    NOTE:  Do not wipe off the special grease applied to the spline (A).

  45. Dowel Pin - Remove

    NOTE:  Refer to the Exploded View as needed during this procedure.

  46. Bracket - Remove (If Necessary)

  47. Drive Plate - Inspect
    1. Inspect the drive plate, and replace it if it is damaged.
  48. Transfer Assembly - Remove (If Necessary)
