VSA System Symptom Troubleshooting - ABS indicator, brake system indicator (red), VSA indicator, and brake system indicator (amber) do not go off (With CAN Gateway (With Auto Idle Stop System)) (2020 2021)
ABS indicator, brake system indicator (red), VSA indicator, and brake system indicator (amber) do not go off
- All DTCs check
-1. All DTCs check with the HDS.
All DTCs
Are there DTCs indicated?
YES
Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
NO
Go to step 2.
- Fuse check 1
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Check the following fuse.
Fuse No. A3-2 Is the fuse OK?
YES
The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 3.
NO
Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. A3-2 fuse circuit.
- Fuse check 2
-1. Check the following fuse.
Fuse No. F4 Is the fuse OK?
YES
The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 4.
NO
Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. F4 fuse circuit.
- Fuse check 3
-1. Check the following fuse.
Fuse No. D34 Is the fuse OK?
YES
The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 5.
NO
Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. D34 fuse circuit.
- Fuse check 4
-1. Check the following fuse.
Fuse No. F5 Is the fuse OK?
YES
The fuse is OK. Reinstall the fuse, then go to step 6.
NO
Replace the fuse. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. F5 fuse circuit.
- DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 check
-1. Remove the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 , and test it .
Is the relay OK?
YES
The relay is OK. Reinstall the relay, then go to step 7.
NO
- Open wire check (IG1 RELAY1 line)
-1. Disconnect the following connector.
VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector -2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
-3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector No. 14 Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The IG1 RELAY1 wire is OK. Go to step 12.
NO
Go to step 8.
- Open wire check (IG1 RELAY1, IG1 RLY2 OUT lines)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Remove the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 .
-3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2: removed Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector No. 14 Test point 2 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 1: Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The IG1 RELAY1 and the IG1 RLY2 OUT wires are OK. Go to step 9.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2.
- Open wire check (DCDC OUT2 line)
-1. Disconnect the following connector.
DC-DC converter connector B (5P) -2. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2: removed DC-DC converter connector B (5P): disconnected Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 2: Test point 2 DC-DC converter connector B (5P) (female terminals) No. 5: Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The DCDC OUT2 wire is OK. Go to step 10.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the DC-DC converter and the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2.
- Open wire check (IG1 VSA/ABS line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
-2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2: removed DC-DC converter connector B (5P): disconnected Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 3: Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The IG1 VSA/ABS wire is OK. Go to step 11.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the under-dash fuse/relay box and the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2.
- Open wire check (GND line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2: removed DC-DC converter connector B (5P): disconnected Test point 1 DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 4P socket (female terminals) No. 4: Test point 2 Body ground Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The GND wire is OK. Replace the DC-DC converter .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the DC-DC converter IG1 relay 2 and body ground (G402).
- Open wire check (+B ABS/VSA FSR line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connector.
VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector -3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector No. 1 Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The +B ABS/VSA FSR wire is OK. Go to step 13.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the under-hood fuse/relay box and the VSA modulator-control unit.
- Open wire check (+B VSA line)
-1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector No. 18 Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The +B VSA wire is OK. Go to step 14.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the auxiliary under-dash fuse/relay box and the VSA modulator-control unit.
- Open wire check (GND line)
-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector No. 2 Test point 2 Body ground Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The GND wire is OK. Go to step 15.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and body ground (G201).
- F-CAN circuit communication check
-1. Reconnect the following connector.
VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector -2. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

Gauge control module (Bus A) is Not Available
Go to step 16.
VSA modulator-control unit (Bus A) is Not Available
Go to step 17.
VSA modulator-control unit (Bus B) is Not Available
Go to step 18.
VSA modulator-control unit and gauge control module are Available
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting .
- Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Gauge control module connector A (32P) CAN gateway 16P connector -3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected Test circuit 1 Test point 1 Gauge control module connector A (32P) No. 19 Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3: Test circuit 2 Test point 1 Gauge control module connector A (32P) No. 20 Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 11: Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good gauge control module , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good gauge control module, replace the original gauge control module .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway.
- Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connectors.
VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector CAN gateway 16P connector -3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected Test circuit 1 Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector No. 40 Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3: Test circuit 2 Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector No. 28 Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 11: Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for loose terminals and poor connections in the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting. If they are OK, replace the VSA modulator-control unit .

Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the CAN gateway.
- Open wire check (F-CAN B_H, F-CAN B_L lines)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connectors.
VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector CAN gateway 16P connector -3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected Test circuit 1 Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector No. 46 Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 6: Test circuit 2 Test point 1 VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector No. 34 Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 14: Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The F-CAN B_H and F-CAN B_L wires are OK. Check for loose terminals and poor connections in the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting. If they are OK, replace the VSA modulator-control unit .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the CAN gateway.
