Radiator and Fan Replacement

NOTE:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damaging the wiring and terminals, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
  • Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact any other wiring or hoses, or interfere with any other parts.
  1. Remove the front grille (see FRONT GRILLE REPLACEMENT ).
  2. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
  3. Drain the engine coolant (see COOLANT CHECK  ).
  4. Remove the splash shield (see SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT ).
  5. Remove the harness clamp (A) from the radiator fan shroud.

  6. 4WD model: Unclamp the ATF cooler hose clamps (A).

  7. Loosen the A/C condenser fan shroud mounting bolts (B).
  8. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  9. Disconnect the radiator fan motor connector (A) and the radiator upper hose (B), then remove the harness clamps (C).

  10. Disconnect the A/C condenser fan motor connector (A) and the coolant reservoir hose (B), then remove the harness clamps (C).

  11. Remove the bulkhead bracket mounting bolt/nut (A) and the upper brackets/cushions (B), then disconnect the coolant reservoir hose (C).

  12. Remove the A/C condenser fan shroud assembly (A), then remove the radiator fan shroud assembly (B).
    NOTE: Move the radiator fan shroud assembly toward the A/C compressor side of the vehicle to allow for enough space to lift it up and away from the A/C condenser fan shroud assembly.

  13. Disassemble the fan shrouds.

  14. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
  15. Disconnect the ECT sensor 2 connector (A), the ATF cooler hoses (B), the lower radiator hose (C) and remove the ATF cooler hose brackets (D).

  16. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  17. Pull up the radiator assembly (A), then remove the lower mounting cushions (B).

  18. Remove the related parts from the radiator.
  19. Install the radiator in the reverse order of removal. Make sure the upper and lower mounting cushions are set securely.
  20. Fill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system (see step  8 under Coolant Replacement ).
  21. Clean up any spilled engine coolant.
  22. Inspect for engine coolant leaks.
