Paddle Shifter + (Upshift Switch) Circuit Troubleshooting
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) locations and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repair or service.
- Remove the steering wheel (see STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL ).
- Check for continuity between cable reel connector C (20P) terminals No. 4 and No. 19 when pressing and releasing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch).Fig 1: Checking For Continuity Between Cable Reel Connector C (20P) Terminals No. 4 And No. 19 When Pressing And Releasing Paddle Shifter + (Upshift Switch)

Is there continuity when pressing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) and no continuity when the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) is released?
YES -Go to step 5.
NO -Go to step 3.
- Disconnect the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) 4P connector.
- Check for continuity between paddle shifter + (upshift switch) 4P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 when pressing and releasing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch).Fig 2: Checking For Continuity Between Paddle Shifter + (Upshift Switch) 4P Connector Terminals No. 1 And No. 2 When Pressing And Releasing Paddle Shifter + (Upshift Switch)

Is there continuity when pressing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) and no continuity when the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) is released?
YES -Replace the cable reel subharness.
NO -Replace the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) (see PADDLE SHIFTER + (UPSHIFT SWITCH) OR PADDLE SHIFTER - (DOWNSHIFT SWITCH) REPLACEMENT ).
- Remove the cable reel (see CABLE REEL REPLACEMENT ).
- Check for continuity between cable reel connector A (20P) terminal No. 9 and body ground.

Is there continuity?
YES -Go to step 7.
NO -Repair an open in the wire between cable reel connector A (20P) terminal No. 9 and body ground (G502), or repair poor body ground (G502).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Measure the voltage between cable reel connector A (20P) terminals No. 5 and No. 9.

Is there battery voltage?
YES -Replace the cable reel (see CABLE REEL REPLACEMENT ).
NO -Go to step 9.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector A (44P).
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal A30 and body ground.

Is there continuity?
YES -Repair a short in the wire between PCM connector terminal A30 and the cable reel connector A(20P).
NO -Check for loose or poor connections at PCM connector terminal A30. If the connection is OK, substitute a known-good PCM (see SUBSTITUTING THE ECM/PCM ) and recheck.
