Disconnecting the IMA Motor Power Cable Connector From the Motor Stator
WARNING:
The IMA motor power cables carry high voltage when the engine is running or the IMA system is energized. To avoid serious injury from electrical shock, do not start the engine with the IMA motor power cables disconnected.
NOTE:
- Put on insulated gloves and use insulated tools to protect you from electrical shock.
- IMA components are located in this area. The IMA is a high-voltage system. You must be familiar with the IMA system before working on or around it. Make sure you have read the IMA service precautions before doing repairs or service.
- Make sure the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure.
- Remove the IPU Cover. IPU Cover Removal/Installation .
- Remove the PCU lid (A).
- Remove the IMA motor power cable terminals (U, V, W).NOTE: Check the position of the U phase, V phase, and W phase terminals before disconnecting the IMA motor power cable.
- Remove the 12 volt power cable (A) and wrap the end of the cable terminal with insulating tape.
- Remove the cable clamp (B).
- Remove the air cleaner.
- Slide the protector (A) in the direction of the arrow. Push the tab (B), then raise the lever (C). Remove the IMA motor power cable (D) from the motor stator.NOTE:
- If the outside of the IMA motor power cable connector is dirty, clean it before you disconnect it.
- Cover the disconnected connector (E) with a plastic bag (F), and wrap the IMA motor power cable terminals with insulating tape (G).
- If the IMA motor power cable is wet, dry it with a clean shop towel. Do not use compressed air.
- Remove the nut (A), the clamp (B), and the 12 volt power cable (C) from the battery terminal fuse box.
- Remove the ground cable (A).
- Remove the cowl cover and the under-cowl panel. UNDER-COWL PANEL REPLACEMENT
- Remove the IMA motor power cable (A) from the bracket (B).
- Remove the clamp (C).
- Remove the fuel tank. FUEL TANK UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the subframe.
- Remove the clip (A).
- Remove the heat shield (B).
- Remove the parking brake cable brackets (A).
- Wrap the IMA motor power cable with protective tape to avoid damaging tube surface.
- Remove the bolts (A).
- Remove the bolt (A) and the clamp (B).NOTE: Do not reuse the clamps. Replace them with new ones.
- Remove the bolt (A) and nut (B).
- Pull out the IMA motor power cable from the body.
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
- When install the IMA motor power cable, check the position of the U phase, V phase, and W phase terminals before connecting them.
- If the IMA battery level gauge displays no level, start the engine, and hold the engine speed between 3,500 rpm and 4,000 rpm without load (CVT in P or N, M/T in neutral) until the level gauge will display at least half charged level.
