Retrieving Flash Codes Using "D" Indicator Light

- If flash code exists, "D" indicator light will flash when ignition is turned on. To retrieve flash code, turn ignition off. Install jumper wire between service check connector terminals. Service check connector is located near DLC. See Fig 1.
- Turn ignition on. Flash codes are displayed by short and long flashes of "D" indicator light on instrument panel. If Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is also flashing, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Repair MIL codes first.
- A short flash indicates a single digit flash code. A long flash equals 10 short flashes. For example, if "D" indicator light flashes once, this is a Flash Code No. 1. If "D" indicator light flashes one long flash and then 4 short flashes, this is a Flash Code No. 14.
- Once flash code is obtained, turn ignition off. Remove jumper wire from service check connector. Determine probable cause of fault. See DTC/FLASH CODE IDENTIFICATION table. For trouble shooting of flash codes, see DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .
