Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal

  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Mark and remove hood. Disconnect battery cables.
  2. Drain cooling system and engine oil. On A/T models, disconnect transmission oil cooler lines. Remove cooling fan and clutch, fan shroud and radiator. Remove A/C condenser and compressor (if equipped), leaving hoses connected. Remove air cleaner and air intake tubing. Disconnect accelerator cable and kick down cable (if equipped).
  3. Disconnect necessary electrical connections, vacuum hoses, fuel lines and coolant hoses. Raise and support vehicle. Remove skid plate. Remove starter motor. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
  4. On M/T models, disconnect clutch cable from bracket near starter motor. On A/T models, remove torque converter housing lower plate and torque converter-to-flexplate bolts.
  5. On all models, lower vehicle. Support transmission. Remove transmission-to-cylinder block bolts. Mark distributor housing position cylinder head and remove distributor. Make match marks on hood and remove hood. Install chain hoist to engine. Remove engine mount bolts and remove engine.
