Steering Wheel & Horn Pad R & I: Removal

1. Disable SRS, see DISABLING & ACTIVATING SRS  . Ensure front wheels are straight. Remove 2 side trim covers, located behind steering wheel, from steering column. Remove 2 Torx head screws. Release Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and disconnect upper steering column connector. Remove driver side air bag module. Disconnect horn switch and cruise control (if equipped) connector.
2. Remove steering wheel retaining nut. Mark steering wheel and shaft for reassembly reference. Using steering wheel puller, remove steering wheel. See Figure .

Ensure front wheels are straight. Disconnect negative battery cable. Pull horn pad assembly from steering wheel. See Figure . Remove steering wheel retaining nut. Scribe mark on shaft and steering wheel for reassembly reference. Using steering wheel puller, remove steering wheel. See Figure .
