Chart E, Inflatable Restraint Indicator Does Not Come On Steady During Crank: Description
When ignition is first turned on, system voltage is applied through IG fuse to SIR INDICATOR HIGH and INFLATABLE RESTRAINT indicator light, which is connected to SIR INDICATOR LOW. SIR IG fuse also applies system voltage to IGNITION 1 inputs. Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module (DERM) responds by flashing INFLATABLE RESTRAINT indicator 7-9 times.
When engine is being cranked, system voltage is applied from SIR ST fuse to DERM at CRANK input. DERM responds by grounding SIR INDICATOR LOW output until system voltage is removed from CRANK input. This results in a steady INFLATABLE RESTRAINT indicator during cranking.
After engine is cranked, DERM will again flash INFLATABLE RESTRAINT indicator 7-9 times if ignition is on.

- Checks whether fault is due to an open SIR ST fuse.
- Checks for a proper signal to CRANK input during cranking.
- Checks whether lack of a proper crank signal is due to an open CRANK input circuit or an open power feed to SIR ST fuse.
- Checks whether SIR ST fuse is open due to a short to ground in CRANK input circuit.
- Checks whether short to ground in CRANK circuit is in wiring harness or DERM.
