Removal And Installation

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
    CAUTION:
    • When lifting a vehicle using a lift, be careful not to damage the lower parts of the vehicle (floor under cover, fuel filter, fuel tank, canister).

    (Refer to General Information - "LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ")
  2. Loosen the front wheel nuts slightly.

    Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.

  3. Remove the front wheel and tire.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "WHEEL ")

  4. Loosen the bolt (A) and then separate the universal joint from the steering column and shaft.

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Keep the steering wheel in a neutral position. Moving the steering wheel may damage the cable inside the clock spring.
    • Tighten the steering column bolts in the same direction as they were removed.
    • Do not reuse the universal joint bolt when installing.
  5. Remove the engine side cover (A).

  6. Remove the LH side cover (A).

  7. Remove service cover (A).

  8. Remove the cap (B) after disconnecting the continuously variable damping control connector (A)

  9. Remove the RH front strut bar (A).

  10. Assemble the engine support fixture.

    (Refer to "SPECIAL SERVICE TOOLS - Engine support fixture assembly drawing")

  11. Using the engine support fixture (A), hold the engine and transaxle assembly safely.

  12. Loosen the engine mounting bracket nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    63.7 - 83.3 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb-ft)

  13. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  14. Disconnect the R-MDPS connector (A).

  15. Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor after loosening the mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  16. Loosen the brake hose bracket mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  17. Remove the split pin and then loosen the nut (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)

  18. Remove the tie rod end ball joint by using the SST (09568-2J100).

  19. Separate the lateral arm (A) from the sub frame after loosening the mounting bolt and nut.

    Tightening torque: 

    156.9 - 176.5 N.m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb-ft)

  20. Remove the side cover (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  21. Separate the tension arm (A) from the sub frame after loosening the mounting bolt and nut.

    Tightening torque: 

    156.9 - 176.5 N.m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb-ft)

  22. By hammering on a chisel, unlock the driveshaft lock hub nut caulking.

    NOTE:
    • If there is screw thread (A) on the end of the nut, unlock the caulking by using a chisel and then loosen the nut to prevent damaging driveshaft screw thread.

  23. Loosen the caulking nut (A) from the driveshaft and then seperate the driveshaft from the hub assembly by using the plastic hammer.

    Tightening torque: 

    294.2 - 313.8 N.m (30.0 - 32.0 kgf.m, 217.0 - 231.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • When removing the drive shaft, use a plastic hammer in order to avoid shock applied to the axle.

    NOTE:
    • The driveshaft lock nut must be replaced with new one.

    • When replacing the drive lock hub nut, use only the nut with screw thread (A) on the end.

    • Tighten the driveshaft lock hub nut to the specified tightening torque, and caulk by using a chisel and hammer.
    • If there are two key seats, perform on all two seats.

      Caulking depth (A):  1.5 mm (0.0591 in)

  24. Loosen the mounting bolt and then remove the inner shaft bearing bracket and front drive shaft (A) from the engine oil pan.

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

    CAUTION:
    • When removing the driveshaft, be careful not to damage the boot of the shock absorber.
  25. Remove the front sub frame after loosening the mounting bolts (A, B, C).

    Tightening torque: 

    196.1 - 215.7 N.m (20.0 - 22.0 kgf.m, 144.7 - 159.1 lb-ft)

  26. Remove the side cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  27. Remove the rear side cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  28. Remove the steering gear box (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb-ft)

  29. Remove the stabilizer bar (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

  30. Remove the engine mounting bracket (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

  31. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  32. Check the alignment.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "ALIGNMENT ")
