Removal And Installation
- Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.CAUTION:
- When lifting a vehicle using a lift, be careful not to damage the lower parts of the vehicle (floor under cover, fuel filter, fuel tank, canister).
(Refer to General Information - "LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ") - Loosen the front wheel nuts slightly.
Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
- Remove the front wheel and tire.
(Refer to Suspension System - "WHEEL ")
- Loosen the bolt (A) and then separate the universal joint from the steering column and shaft.
Tightening torque:
32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)
NOTE:- Keep the steering wheel in a neutral position. Moving the steering wheel may damage the cable inside the clock spring.
- Tighten the steering column bolts in the same direction as they were removed.
- Do not reuse the universal joint bolt when installing.
- Remove the engine side cover (A).
- Remove the LH side cover (A).
- Remove service cover (A).
- Remove the cap (B) after disconnecting the continuously variable damping control connector (A)
- Remove the RH front strut bar (A).
- Assemble the engine support fixture.
(Refer to "SPECIAL SERVICE TOOLS - Engine support fixture assembly drawing")
- Using the engine support fixture (A), hold the engine and transaxle assembly safely.
- Loosen the engine mounting bracket nut (A).
Tightening torque:
63.7 - 83.3 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb-ft)

- Remove the under cover.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
- Disconnect the R-MDPS connector (A).
- Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor after loosening the mounting bolts (A, B).
Tightening torque:
8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)
- Loosen the brake hose bracket mounting bolt (A).
Tightening torque:
8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)
- Remove the split pin and then loosen the nut (A).
Tightening torque:
98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb-ft)
- Remove the tie rod end ball joint by using the SST (09568-2J100).
- Separate the lateral arm (A) from the sub frame after loosening the mounting bolt and nut.
Tightening torque:
156.9 - 176.5 N.m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb-ft)
- Remove the side cover (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.
Tightening torque:
8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)
- Separate the tension arm (A) from the sub frame after loosening the mounting bolt and nut.
Tightening torque:
156.9 - 176.5 N.m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb-ft)
- By hammering on a chisel, unlock the driveshaft lock hub nut caulking.
- Loosen the caulking nut (A) from the driveshaft and then seperate the driveshaft from the hub assembly by using the plastic hammer.
Tightening torque:
294.2 - 313.8 N.m (30.0 - 32.0 kgf.m, 217.0 - 231.5 lb-ft)
NOTE:- When removing the drive shaft, use a plastic hammer in order to avoid shock applied to the axle.
NOTE:- The driveshaft lock nut must be replaced with new one.
- When replacing the drive lock hub nut, use only the nut with screw thread (A) on the end.
- Tighten the driveshaft lock hub nut to the specified tightening torque, and caulk by using a chisel and hammer.
- If there are two key seats, perform on all two seats.
Caulking depth (A): 1.5 mm (0.0591 in)
- Loosen the mounting bolt and then remove the inner shaft bearing bracket and front drive shaft (A) from the engine oil pan.
Tightening torque:
49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)
CAUTION:- When removing the driveshaft, be careful not to damage the boot of the shock absorber.
- Remove the front sub frame after loosening the mounting bolts (A, B, C).
Tightening torque:
196.1 - 215.7 N.m (20.0 - 22.0 kgf.m, 144.7 - 159.1 lb-ft)
- Remove the side cover (A).
Tightening torque:
8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

- Remove the rear side cover (A).
Tightening torque:
8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

- Remove the steering gear box (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.
Tightening torque:
107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb-ft)
- Remove the stabilizer bar (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.
Tightening torque:
49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)
- Remove the engine mounting bracket (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.
Tightening torque:
49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

- To install, reverse the removal procedures.
- Check the alignment.
