RH Cylinder Head Assembly

  1. Remove the engine and transmission assembly.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY ")

  2. Remove the surge tank.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "SURGE TANK ")

  3. Remove the intake manifold.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "INTAKE MANIFOLD ")

  4. Remove the water cooled intercooler reservoir tank.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "WATER COOLED INTERCOOLER COOLANT RESERVOIR TANK ")

  5. Remove the LH and RH cylinder head cover.

    (Refer to Cylinder Head Assembly - "CYLINDER HEAD COVER ")

  6. Remove the integrated thermal management module (ITM).

    (Refer to Cooling System - "INTEGRATED THERMAL MANAGEMENT MODULE (ITM) ")

  7. Remove the water cooled intercooler.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "WATER COOLED INTERCOOLER ")

  8. Remove the water pump.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "WATER PUMP ")

  9. Remove the idler.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "IDLER ")

  10. Remove the drive belt tensioner.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "DRIVE BELT TENSIONER ")

  11. Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "CRANKSHAFT DAMPER PULLEY ")

  12. Remove the oil filter & oil cooler.

    (Refer to Lubrication System - "OIL FILTER & OIL COOLER ")

  13. Remove the alternator.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "ALTERNATOR ")

  14. Remove the A/C compressor.

    (Refer to Heating, Ventilation Air conditioning - "COMPRESSOR ")

  15. Remove the timing chain.

    (Refer to Timing System - "TIMING CHAIN ")

  16. Remove the RH turbo charger & exhaust manifold assembly.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "TURBO CHARGER & EXHAUST MANIFOLD ")

  17. Remove the coolant pipe (A) by pulling it forward of the engine.

  18. Remove the RH camshaft front bearing cap (A) and camshaft bearing cap (B).

  19. Remove the RH intake CVVT & camshaft assembly (A) and RH exhaust CVVT & camshaft assembly (B).

  20. Remove the RH cam carrier (A).

  21. Remove the hydraulic lash adjuster (HLA) and swing arm (A).

    Information 

    • When removing and reinstalling the Hydraulic Lash Adjuster (HLA) and the swing arm, keep them in pairs.
  22. Remove the RH spark plugs.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "SPARK PLUG ")

  23. Loosen the RH cylinder head bolts and remove the RH cylinder head.
    1. Remove the RH cylinder head bolts in several passes as shown in the below illustration.

      NOTE:
      • Head warpage or cracking could result from removing bolts in an incorrect order.
    2. Lift the RH cylinder head (A) from the cylinder block and place it on the wooden block.

      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder head and cylinder block.
    3. Remove the RH cylinder head gasket (A).
