Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2023 GMC Acadia. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the electronic transmission range selector manual park release cable from the transmission and position out of the way. Electronic Transmission Range Selector Manual Park Release Cable Replacement (LSY) , or Electronic Transmission Range Selector Manual Park Release Cable Replacement (LSY) 
  2. Drain the transmission fluid. Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill

    NOTE:

    Radiator assembly removed for clarity.

    Disconnect the control valve body electrical connector (1) then unclip all necessary wiring harness retainers from the transmission.

  4. Disconnect and position the wiring harness (2) out of the way.
  5. Disconnect all necessary wiring harness retainers and electrical connectors from the transmission.
  6. Remove the left and right side front wheelhouse liners. Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement
  7. Remove the automatic transmission fluid cooling heat exchanger inlet pipe. Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Heat Exchanger Inlet Pipe Replacement (LSY)
  8. Remove the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipe from the transmission. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LSY)
  9. Remove the automatic transmission fluid cooler exchanger from the transmission. Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Exchanger Replacement (LSY)
  10. Plug and/or cap the pipes and the transmission to prevent contamination.

    Remove the transmission front mount (4). Transmission Front Mount Replacement

    Remove the engine wiring harness bracket bolt (1).

  13. Reposition the electrical wiring harness (2) away from the upper transmission bolts.

    Remove the 2 transmission bolts (1).

  15. Install the engine support fixture. Engine Support Fixture
  16. Disconnect the left side front wheel drive half shaft from the transmission. Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side
  17. Remove the drivetrain and front suspension cradle. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation

    Remove the transmission rear mount bracket (2) from the power transfer unit. Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement (AWD) 

  19. Remove the power transfer unit from the transmission. Power Transfer Unit Case Replacement (LSY)
  20. Remove the starter. Starter Replacement (LSY)
  21. Mark the relationship of the flex plate to the torque converter for reassembly.

    Remove the torque converter bolts (1).

  23. Lower the transmission side with the support fixture to allow clearance for removal.
  24. Unclip the engine wiring harness from the transmission.
  25. Raise the vehicle.
  26. Use a suitable transmission jack in order to support the transmission.

    Remove the 3 transmission bolts (1).

  28. Remove the torque converter cover (2).

    Remove the 2 transmission bolts (1).

  30. NOTE:

    Ensure the torque converter remains securely in place on the transmission input shaft while separating and removing the transmission.

  31. Separate the transmission from the engine.
  32. Lower the transmission with the transmission jack far enough to remove the transmission.
  33. Transfer components as necessary.
