Installation Procedure
- If replacing the transmission, record the TUN prior to installing the new transmission. Transmission Identification Information
- Raise the transmission with the transmission jack and position the transmission to the engine.
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
Install the 2 transmission bolts (1) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).
Install the torque converter cover (2).
- Install the 3 transmission bolts (1) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).
- Remove the transmission jack.
- Align the mark of the flex plate to the mark on the torque converter for reassembly.
- NOTE:
If reusing the torque converter bolts, clean the threads and apply threadlocker to the threads prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
Install the torque converter bolts (1) and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).
- Install the starter. Starter Replacement (LSY)
- Install the power transfer unit to the transmission. Power Transfer Unit Case Replacement (LSY)
Install the transmission rear mount bracket (2) to the power transfer unit. Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement (AWD)
- Install the drivetrain and front suspension cradle. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation
- Install the left side front wheel drive half shaft to the transmission. Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side
- Remove the engine support fixture. Engine Support Fixture
Install the 2 transmission bolts (1) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).
Position the electrical wiring harness (2).
- Install the engine wiring harness bracket bolt and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
- Remove the engine support fixture.
- Connect the engine wiring harness and remaining electrical connectors to the transmission.
- Install the electronic transmission range selector park release cable to the transmission. Electronic Transmission Range Selector Manual Park Release Cable Replacement (LSY) , or Electronic Transmission Range Selector Manual Park Release Cable Replacement (LSY)
- Install the automatic transmission fluid cooler exchanger to the transmission. Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Exchanger Replacement (LSY)
- Install the automatic transmission fluid cooling heat exchanger inlet pipe. Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooling Heat Exchanger Inlet Pipe Replacement (LSY)
- Install the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipe to the transmission. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LSY)
- Install the left and right side front wheelhouse liners. Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement
Install the transmission front mount (3). Transmission Front Mount Replacement
Connect the control valve body electrical connector (1).
- Position and connect the wiring harness (2) to the installed position.
- Connect all necessary wiring harness retainers and electrical connectors to the transmission.
- Fill the transmission with fluid. Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill
- Transmission internal service/overhaul
- Valve body repair or replacement
- Control solenoid valve assembly replacement
- TCM software/calibration update
- Any service in response to a shift quality concern
- Reprogram the transmission. Q77 Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Characterization Programming
- Road test the vehicle.
It may be difficult to access the transmission unique number (TUN) with the transmission installed in the vehicle.
The Transmission Adaptive Values Learn procedure must be performed when one of the following repairs have been made to the vehicle. Failure to perform the procedure after one of the following repairs may result in poor transmission performance, as well as transmission DTCs being set:
