Installation Procedure
- Set the crankshaft pilot bearing to the proper depth. Clutch Pilot Bearing Installation
- Clean the clutch hub and the input shaft from any debris and contaminates with a lint-free towel.
- Use a clean flat brush (1) to apply very light coating of multi-purpose grease to input shaft until the metal is only shiny . No visible clumps of grease are permissible regardless of size. Smear away from the transmission in direction of the shown arrow.
- Clean the entire lead surface of the input shaft with a NEW, lint-free towel (1).
- Position the transmission to the engine.
- Install the four upper transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1 through 4) and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

- Install the eight lower transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1) and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install the catalytic converter brace bracket. Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Replacement (LF4)Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Replacement (LGX)
- Connect the hydraulic clutch hose/pipe (2) to the clutch slave cylinder.
- Connect the hydraulic clutch hose/pipe (1) retaining clip to the clutch slave cylinder.
- Connect the shift control assembly to the transmission. Shift Control Assembly Replacement (MG9)
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Retaining Clip @ Transmission - Install- Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe @ Transmission - Install
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Fitting Retainer @ Transmission - Install- Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe (Front Jumper Left) @ Transmission - Install
- Connect the following electrical connectors:
- Gear position sensor
- Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) Vehicle Speed Sensor Replacement (MG9)
- Reverse lockout solenoid Reverse Lockout Solenoid Replacement
- Transmission fluid temperature sensor Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Replacement
- Bleed to hydraulic clutch system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch System Bleeding .
- Check the transmission fluid and fill as necessary. Refer to Transmission Fluid Level Inspection (MG9) .
- Perform the gear position relearn. Gear Position Sensor Learn
It is extremely important to set the clutch pilot bearing to the correct depth. Failure to set the pilot bearing to the prescribed depth will result in bearing failure. A new bearing should be used anytime an adjustment is needed.
Use care when cleaning the clutch hub. The clutch hub may have sharp edges and can cause personal injury if contact is made. Wear protective gloves to avoid personal injury.
Applying too much or the wrong type of grease on the transmission input shaft may cause damage, clutch slippage or failure. Always apply the correct type of grease. Never apply more grease than is necessary to coat the transmission input shaft with a very thin film of grease.
Ensure that no grease remains on the lead surface of the transmission input shaft. Clean the lead surface of the transmission input shaft prior to the assembly of the transmission to the engine. Failure to maintain a clean surface may cause clutch slippage or failure.
