Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 GMC Acadia. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. For cylinder head assemble. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble

    NOTE:

    Do not use any sealing material.

  2. Install the cylinder head gasket (3) to the block.
  3. Install the cylinder head (2). Ensure the number 1 cylinder is at top dead center (TDC). The key on the crankshaft should be on top in the 12 o'clock position.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    NOTE:

    Always use NEW cylinder head bolts.

  4. Install the cylinder head bolts.
    1. First Pass:  tighten the bolts in sequence to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
    2. Final Pass:  tighten the bolts an additional 190 degrees in sequence using the EN 45059  meter.

    NOTE:

    Support engine as necessary from underneath while repositioning the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture 

  5. Reposition the engine support fixture lift hook from the J-36857  Engine Lift Bracket (2) to the engine lift bracket (3).
  6. Remove the J-36857  Engine Lift Bracket (2) and fastener (1) from the engine block.
  7. Install Thermostat Bypass Pipe. Refer to Thermostat Bypass Pipe Replacement (LCV)

  8. Connect the hoses at the water outlet (2). Refer to Water Outlet Replacement (LCV)
  9. Connect the exhaust camshaft position sensor. Refer to Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Exhaust
  10. Connect the intake camshaft position sensor. Refer to Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Intake
  11. Install the intake and exhaust camshaft, bearing cap and lash adjuster. Refer to Intake and Exhaust Camshaft, Bearing Cap, and Lash Adjuster Removal 
  12. Install the timing chain and tensioner. Refer to Camshaft Timing Chain and Tensioner Replacement

  13. Install the fuel pump (2). Refer to Fuel Pump Replacement
  14. Install the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement 
  15. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement (LCV)

  16. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement 
  17. Install the camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement 
  18. Refill the engine with NEW oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  19. Refill the coolant system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE-47716)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)
