Removal Procedure

WARNING:
Refer to Brake Dust Warning .
- Turn the ignition OFF.
- Block the rear drive wheels.
- Release the park brake lever, if equipped.
- Disable the parking brake cable adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling (With J77) Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling (Without J77) .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (ATS)Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (ATS-V) .
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Non V-Series)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (V-Series) .
- Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JE5, J55)Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J6G) .
- Remove the parking brake shoe upper return spring (1).
- Remove the parking brake shoe adjuster (1).
- Remove the parking brake shoe hold down springs (1) by compressing the hold down springs and rotating the spring 1/4 turn and removing the hold down spring pins.
- Remove the parking brake shoe lower return spring (1).
- Remove the parking brake shoes from the rear brake backing plate.
- Lubricate the park brake shoe to backing plate contact points with high temperature brake lubricant.
