Clutch Components Cleaning and Inspection

Preliminary Procedures Inspect all components or sub-components and perform any repair procedure necessary to fix the damage. The clutch pack is only available for service as an assembly. If the clutch pack assembly is replaced, reprogramming of the transfer case module is required. Refer to Transfer Case Control Module Programming and Setup , and Transfer Case Information Label . Do not clean the clutch friction plates in solvent. Other components may be cleaned in solvent.
1	Transfer Case Clutch Drum NOTE: Inspect the clutch drum for excessive wear or damage. Excessive wear can be identified by steps in the teeth, which prevent the plates from moving freely.
2	Transfer Case Thrust Washer for excessive wear or damage.
3	Transfer Case Clutch Hub NOTE: Inspect the clutch hub for excessive wear or damage. Excessive wear can be identified by steps in the teeth, which prevent the plates from moving freely.
4	Transfer Case Separator Plate NOTE: Inspect the plates for wear or scoring. Inspect the plates for flatness and warping.
5	Transfer Case Friction Plate NOTE: The friction plates are assembled with the lube holes aligned as indicated in order to provide an unrestricted oil path when assembled. Inspect the plates for worn, scored, or burnt friction material. Inspect the plates for flatness and warping.
6	Transfer Case Pressure Plate NOTE: Inspect the plates for flatness, warping, or scoring to the friction plate contact surface.
7	Transfer Case Armature NOTE: Small scratches or wear are allowed. Deep gouges or raised metal on the armature require transfer case replacement and transfer case module reprogramming.
8	Transfer Case Clutch Pack Assembly NOTE: If the clutch pack assembly is replaced, reprogramming of the transfer case module is required. Refer to Transfer Case Control Module Programming and Setup .
