Preliminary Procedures The purpose of this procedure is to obtain a proper clutch travel of 0.7-1.2 mm (0.0275-0.0472 in.) when assembled with a selective thrust washer. Assemble or disassemble the internal components to the clutch pack snap ring (1). Refer to Transfer Case Front Drive Axle Viscous Clutch Assemble , and Transfer Case Assemble .

7	Four Wheel Drive Clutch Shim Procedure Attach the DT-50924 Clutch Pack Measurement Adapter to the input shaft until hand tight. Attach the J-8001 Dial Indicator. Zero the J-8001 Dial Indicator on the rotor assembly in the "free state" assembled position. Rotate the rotor counter clockwise using moderate hand pressure until it stops. Record this measurement. The ideal selected spacer will create the preferred rotor travel value of 0.95 mm (0.0375 in.) The allowable travel range is 0.7-1.2 mm (0.0275-0.0472 in). The selective spacer requires verification before proceeding. Remove the DT-50924 Clutch Pack Measurement Adapter. Remove the installed spacer and install a selected spacer of the correct thickness. Install DT-50924 Clutch Pack Measurement Adapter and re-measure the rotor travel. Refer to Spacer and Shim Specifications for a list of available shim sizes. Remove the J-8001 Dial Indicator and the DT-50924 Clutch Pack Measurement Adapter. Disassemble the components to the clutch pack retaining ring (1). Assemble the internal components to include the selected spacer (7) and spring (2). Refer to Transfer Case Assemble .
