Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Cadillac ATS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install the NEW washer (1) on the wheel drive shaft (2).
- Thoroughly clean the threads using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
- Apply threadlocker to the wheel drive shaft threads. (1) Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Install the wheel drive shaft (1) in the vehicle and through the wheel bearing/hub assembly.
- Install a NEW (Torque Prevailing) Wheel Drive Shaft Nut (2)
- Align the reference mark (1) on the wheel drive shaft (2) and the differential flange (3).
- Install NEW Wheel Drive Shaft Bolts (1) (Qty: 6)
- Install NEW Wheel Drive Shaft Washers (2) (Qty: 3) Do NOT reuse the old washers.
- Tighten the wheel drive shaft bolts.
Tighten
- First Pass: 50 N.m (37 lb ft)
- Final Pass: 45 degrees
- Tighten Wheel Drive Shaft Nut (2) 250 N.m (185 lb ft).
- Install Upper Trailing Arm @ Knuckle. Refer to Trailing Arm Replacement (Upper)
- Install Upper Control Arm @ Knuckle. Refer to Upper Control Arm Replacement
- Install Rear Suspension Lower Control Arm Cover. Refer to Rear Suspension Lower Control Arm Cover Replacement
- Install Exhaust Muffler. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LCV)Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LF4)
- Install the right rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Non V-Series)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (V-Series)
NOTE:
Do NOT reuse wheel drive shaft washer. Use a NEW washer only.
NOTE:
The threads must be clean and free of debris prior to the application of the threadlocker to ensure the proper adhesion and retention.
NOTE:
Ensure that there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the threads on the shaft. Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installation of the nut.
CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
NOTE:
Tighten the NEW torque prevailing wheel drive shaft nut slowly to draw the wheel drive shaft into the hub assembly prior to tightening to specifications.
