Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Cadillac ATS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Inspect the engine mount to ensure the phenolic spacer (1) is in place and not damaged.
- With the aid of an assistant, position and secure the new frame assembly to the support fixture.
- With the aid of an assistant, carefully lower the body to the frame.
- Ensure the following components are clear from the frame:
- Vacuum lines
- Steering knuckles
- Electrical wiring harnesses
- Oil cooler lines
- Install the fastener (1) to the upper left engine mount (2) and tighten to 70 N.m (52 lb ft)
- Install the fastener (1) to the upper right engine mount (2) and tighten to 70 N.m (52 lb ft)
- Install the four drivetrain and front suspension cradle front bolts (1) and tighten to 105 N.m (77 lb ft).
- Install the two drivetrain and front suspension cradle interior bolts (2) and tighten to 105 N.m (77 lb ft).
- Install the two drivetrain and front suspension cradle rear bolts (3) and tighten to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).
- Remove the J-39580 engine support stand from under the vehicle.
- Connect the right and left lower stabilizer shaft links to the stabilizer bar. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (V-Series) .
- Connect the outer tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (V-Series) .
- Connect the front lower control rear links to the front suspension frame. Refer to Front Lower Control Rear Link Replacement (Non V-Series)Front Lower Control Rear Link Replacement (V-Series) .
- Install the fasteners to the charge air cooler to cradle bracket. Refer to Charge Air Cooler Replacement - Left Side (LF4) .
- Connect the ride height sensor link (2) to the front lower control rear link stud and attach the connector (1) to the ride height sensor.
- Connect the vacuum line connector (1) to the engine mount vacuum line connector (2).
- Connect the electric power steering electrical connectors (1) to the steering gear motor (2) and attach the harness retainers (3) to the frame.
- Connect the lower steering intermediate shaft (1) to the electric power steering assembly (2). Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (RWD) .
- Connect the electrical connector (1) to the engine mount vacuum control solenoid (2) and attach the engine harness retainers (3) to the front of the frame.
- Connect the vacuum filter (1) to the radiator assembly.
- Remove the mechanics wire supporting the radiator assembly.
- Install the front cradle shear plate. Refer to Front Cradle Shear Plate Replacement (V Series) .
- Install the front compartment lower noise shields. Refer to Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield Replacement (Front Wheel Drive) Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield Replacement (All Wheel Drive) .
- Install the front wheelhouse panel splash shields. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive) Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement (All Wheel Drive) .
- Install the front compartment air deflector. Refer to Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement (V Series) .
- Install the front tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (V-Series) .
- Remove the engine support fixture.
- Align the vehicle only if replacing the drivetrain and front suspension frame. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement .
CAUTION:
Phenolic spacer must be present to prevent galvanic/corrosive reaction and/or excessive temperature conduction between engine mount bracket and engine mount. Replace mount if phenolic spacer is missing or damaged. Failure to ensure phenolic spacer is intact and not damaged can lead to premature failure of engine mount and/or engine mount bracket.
NOTE:
Suspension components attached to the frame use Torque-to-Yield fasteners and must be DISCARDED and replaced with NEW Torque Angle Yield (TAY) fasteners. The frame to body fasteners are not TAY fasteners.
