Installation Procedure

- Install transmission to vehicle:
- Ensure transmission is positioned in 3rd or 4th gear.
- Rotate transmission clockwise onto clutch hub splines.
- Install bolt and studs securing transmission to engine.
Tighten: Tighten bolt/studs to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install transfer case vent hose clip bracket and nut.
On 4.3L engine this bracket is located at 1 o'clock position and on 4.8L engine this bracket is located at 12 o'clock position.
- Install stud securing right side of transmission to engine.
Tighten: Tighten stud to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install transmission cover.
- Install bolts securing bottom right side of transmission to engine. Bolt (1) secures transmission cover on 4.3L engine only.

Tighten: Tighten bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install transmission support crossmember. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
- Remove transmission jack.
- If equipped with 4.3L engine, install transmission cover bolts.
Tighten: Tighten bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
- Install starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (4.3L Engine) or Starter Motor Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L Engines) or Starter Motor Replacement (8.1L Engine) or Starter Motor Replacement (6.6L (LLY) Engine) in Engine Electrical.
- If equipped with 4WD, install fuel feed/return hose clip to bracket.
- If equipped with 4WD, install vent hose clip (1) to fuel feed/return hose bracket.
- If equipped with 4WD, install vent hose clip to bracket.
- If equipped with 4WD, install clamp securing harness to fuel feed/return pipe bracket.
- Install engine harness clips to fuel feed/return line clips and transmission.
- Connect following engine harness electrical connectors:
- VSS (1)
- Backup lamp switch (3)
- Oxygen sensor (4)
- Connect clutch actuator cylinder hose to clutch master cylinder hose.
- Push together clutch hydraulic hose quick connect fittings, then pull back on fittings to verify engagement.
- Check clutch hydraulic hoses for kinks or twists.
- If vehicle is a 4WD, install transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement in Transfer Case - NVG 236/246-NP8 (Two Speed Automatic) or Transfer Case Assembly Replacement in Transfer Case - NVG 261-NP2 (Two Speed Manual).
- If vehicle is a 2WD, install propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement - One Piece or Propeller Shaft Replacement - Two Piece in Propeller Shaft.
- Fill transmission with fluid.
- Install shift lever assembly. Refer to Shift Lever Assembly Replacement .
- Bleed clutch hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding in Clutch.

DO NOT rely on an audible click or a visual verification on clutch hydraulic hose quick connect fitting connection.
