Axle Shafts: Installation

  1. Install the right axle shaft in the steering knuckle. Install the right axle shaft to the differential flange. Perform the following procedure before installing the axle shaft bolts.
    1. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    2. Clean the bolt threads with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    3. Apply Threadlock (GM P/N 12345382; Canadian P/N 10953489) to bolt threads.
  2. Install the retaining bolts for the right axle shaft. Tighten the axle shaft retaining bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Install the left axle shaft in the steering knuckle. Install the left axle shaft to the differential flange. Install the retaining bolts for the right axle shaft. Tighten the axle shaft retaining bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install the axle shaft retaining nuts. Tighten the axle shaft retaining nuts to specifications. Inspect the fluid level of the front differential assembly. See LUBRICANT LEVEL INSPECTION - FRONT AXLE SHAFT  under LUBRICATION. Install the tires and wheels. Tighten bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
