Rear Parking Brake Anchor Backing Plate Replacement (JD9)

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Disable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement (JD9)  or Parking Brake Shoe Replacement (JH6, JH7) .
  4. Remove the rear axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement .
  5. Disconnect the park brake cable from the actuator lever.
1 Park Brake Backing Plate Bolt (Qty: 4)
CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .

Procedure

  1. Remove all traces of the adhesive patch on the park brake backing plate bolts.
  2. Clean the park brake backing plate bolt threads with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
  3. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to 2/3 of the threaded portion of the bolt.

Tighten:  135 N.m (100 lb ft)

2 Park Brake Backing Plate

Procedure

  1. Remove all traces of the adhesive patch in the rear axle flange threaded holes.
  2. Clean the rear axle flange threaded holes with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
  3. Enable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling .
  4. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment (1500 Drum Brake)  or Parking Brake Adjustment (1500 Disc Brake)  or Parking Brake Adjustment (2500/3500 SRW)  or Parking Brake Adjustment (3500 DRW) .
