Locking Differential Disassemble (10.5 Inch Axle)

  1. Remove the differential case assembly. Refer to Differential Replacement (8.6, 9.5/9.5 LD Inch Axles)  or Differential Replacement (10.5 Inch, 11.5 Inch Axle) .
  2. Remove the differential ring gear. Refer to Drive Pinion and Ring Gear Replacement (8.6, 9.5/9.5 LD, and 11.5 Inch Axles)  or Drive Pinion and Ring Gear Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle) .
  3. Remove the differential side bearings. Refer to Differential Side Bearings Replacement .

  5. Remove the differential case screws.

  7. Use the yoke hole location to pry and separate the differential case halves.
  8. Hold the locking differential cam, side gear, and the clutch plate assembly in the right side case half.

  10. Remove the differential governor.

  12. Remove the differential governor lock.

  14. Remove the locking differential thrust block.

    NOTE: Mark the differential spider, the differential pinion gears and the differential pinion gears accordingly in order to re-assemble the components correctly into the differential case.
  16. Remove the locking differential spider, pinion gears and the thrust washers.

  18. Remove the locking differential side gear.

  20. Remove the left side clutch plates and the guide clips.

  22. Remove the left side gear thrust washer.

  24. Remove the right side cam unit and clutch plate assembly.

  26. Remove the right side locking differential clutch disc thrust washer.
  27. Disassemble the left side differential side gear and clutch disc assembly. Refer to Locking Differential Clutch Disc Assembly Disassemble (8.6 Inch Axle)  or Locking Differential Clutch Disc Assembly Disassemble (9.5 Inch Axle)  or Locking Differential Clutch Disc Assembly Disassemble (10.5 Inch Axle)  or Locking Differential Clutch Disc Assembly Disassemble (11.5 Inch Axle) .
  28. Disassemble the right side locking differential side gear cam unit and clutch disc assembly. Refer to Locking Differential Cam Unit Disassemble (8.6 Inch Axle)  or Locking Differential Cam Unit Disassemble (9.5 Inch Axle)  or Locking Differential Cam Unit Disassemble (10.5 Inch Axle)  or Locking Differential Cam Unit Disassemble (11.5 Inch Axle) .
