Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Cadillac CTS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: With wheels of the vehicle facing straight ahead, secure the steering wheel utilizing steering column anti-rotation pin, steering column lock, or a strap to prevent rotation. Locking of the steering column will prevent damage and a possible malfunction of the SIR system. The steering wheel must be secured in position before disconnecting the following components:
  • The steering column
  • The intermediate shaft(s)
  • The steering gear
After disconnecting these components, do not rotate the steering wheel or move the front tires and wheels. Failure to follow this procedure may cause the SIR coil assembly to become un-centered and cause possible damage to the SIR coil. If you think the SIR coil has became un-centered, refer to your specific SIR coil's centering procedure to re-center SIR Coil.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECTION AND CONNECTION (SIDE POST) .
  2. Remove the cross vehicle brace. Refer to Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement .
  3. Remove the exhaust system. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM REPLACEMENT (WITH LY7 AND LLT) .
  4. Remove the right and left lower engine mount retaining nuts.
  5. Disconnect the lower intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear and position the shaft aside. Refer to INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACEMENT .
  6. Remove the upper engine mount retaining nut (1).

  8. Install a screw jack with a block of wood under the oil pan for support.
  9. Support the rear of the front frame with a screw jack.
  10. Remove the frame rear (1) and center (2) mounting bolts.
  11. Loosen the front frame bolts (3) 12.7 mm (0.5 in.) to 25.4 mm (1 in.).
  12. Lower the rear section of the frame.
  13. Raise the engine using the screw jack until the weight is removed from the mount.
  14. Lower the screw jack under the frame.
  15. Remove the engine mount (1) from the vehicle.
