Removal Procedure

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Remove the front compartment sight shield as necessary. Refer to Sight Shields, Hood Adjuster, Hood Bumper, Hood Latch Replacement in Body Front End.
  3. Remove the oil level indicator from the oil level indicator tube.
  4. Remove the oil level indicator tube bolt.
  5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Remove the knock sensor. Refer to Knock Sensor (KS) Replacement - Bank 2 in Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
  7. Remove the heat shield clip from the oil level indicator tube.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. IMPORTANT: Note the location and orientation of the secondary (small square) heat shield.
  10. Remove the oil level indicator tube up through the exhaust manifold.
  11. If you are replacing only the oil level indicator tube seal, remove and discard the old seal.
