Diagnostic Procedure
- Observe AIR BAG warning light while turning ignition on. If AIR BAG warning light flashes 7 times, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light does not flash 7 times, go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION .
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, inspect and repair data link circuits.
- If scan tool communicates with Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM), go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with SDM, inspect and repair data link communication circuits.
- Request SIR Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) display on scan tool. If scan tool displays current or history DTC's, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC's, SIR system is functioning normally.
- If scan tool displays DTC's that begin with "U", inspect and repair data link communication circuits. If other DTC's are displayed, go to next step.
- If scan tool displays DTC B1000, go to DTC B1000 . If scan tool displays other DTC's, perform appropriate diagnostic procedures. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION table.
