Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Yukon XL, 2002 GMC Sierra, 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Did you perform the diagnostic system check? If so, go to next step. If not, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Install a scan tool. Turn ignition on, engine off. Before clearing the DTCs, use the scan tool to record the freeze frame and failure records. Using the CLEAR INFO function erases the freeze frame and failure records from the PCM. Record the freeze frame and failure records. Clear the DTCs. Drive the vehicle in D3. Record the data using snapshot mode. Is the TCC slip speed snapshot data greater than 140 RPM when the TCC duty cycle is commanded greater than 70 percent for greater than 3 seconds? If so, go to next step. If not, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  3. Inspect the TCC PWM solenoid valve for being mechanically stuck off. See TORQUE CONVERTER DIAGNOSIS  under PERFORMANCE TESTS. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  5. If not, go to next step.
  4. Inspect the TCC PWM solenoid valve for a damaged exhaust orifice. Inspect for the converter regulated apply valve being stuck in the off (release) position. Inspect the converter clutch shift valve for a stuck condition. Inspect for a misaligned or damaged valve body gasket. Inspect for a restricted apply or release passage. Inspect the torque converter for being mechanically stuck off. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to next step.
  5. Perform the following procedure to verify the repair:
    • Select DTC.
    • Select CLEAR INFO.
    • Drive the vehicle in D3 with steady acceleration and throttle angle over 12 percent.
    • TCC duty cycle is greater than 70 percent.
    • The PCM must see a TCC slip of less than 20 RPM for 3 seconds.
    • Select SPECIFIC DTC.
    • Enter DTC P0741.

Has the test run and passed? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step  1.
