Blower Motor Malfunction

NOTE: For circuit reference, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  and/or WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
NOTE: Definition: The blower motor operates in at least one, but not all, speed positions.
  1. Did you review DESCRIPTION & OPERATION and perform the necessary inspections? If so, go to next step. If not, see DESCRIPTION , OPERATION  and TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  2. Turn ignition on. Place mode switch in VENT position. Place blower switch in each speed position. If blower is inoperative in any switch position, go to next step. If blower operates normally, problem is intermittent. Check for poor connections or damaged wiring. Repair as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  14.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect blower motor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a test light connected to ground, probe blower motor harness connector terminal "A" (Purple wire). If test light illuminates, go to step  7. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect blower motor resistor/relay assembly harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using test light connected to ground, probe blower motor resistor/relay assembly harness connector terminal "A" (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  10.
  5. Using test light connected to ground, individually probe blower motor resistor/relay assembly harness connector terminals "B" (Orange wire), "D" (Tan wire), "E" (Yellow wire) and "F" (Light Blue wire) while placing blower switch in corresponding speed position. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light illuminates at each switch position, go to step  8. If test light does not illuminate at each switch position, go to next step.
  6. Check for open in suspect wire. Repair suspect wire as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  14. If wire is okay, go to step  9.
  7. Check for poor connections or connector damage at blower motor harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  14. If connections are okay, go to step  11.
  8. Check for poor connections or connector damage at blower motor resistor/relay assembly harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  14. If connections are okay, go to step  12.
  9. Check for poor connections or connector damage at HVAC control assembly harness connectors. Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  14. If connections are okay, go to step  13.
  10. Repair Orange wire between blower motor resistor/relay assembly and FRONT HVAC Fuse (30-amp) located in underhood fuse block as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  14.
  11. Replace blower motor. See BLOWER MOTOR (FRONT)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  14.
  12. Replace blower motor resistor assembly. See BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  14.
  13. Replace HVAC control assembly. See HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to next step.
  14. Operate blower system to verify repair. If blower operates normally, repair is complete. If blower motor is still operates continuously, return to step  3.
