Auxiliary Blower Motor Malfunctions (A/C Or Heater)

NOTE: For circuit reference, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  and/or WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
NOTE: Definition: The auxiliary blower motor operates in at least one, but not all, speed positions.
  1. Did you review DESCRIPTION & OPERATION and perform the necessary inspections? If so, go to next step. If not, see DESCRIPTION , OPERATION  and TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  2. Turn ignition on. Place appropriate auxiliary blower switch in each speed position. If auxiliary blower operates in each speed position, problem is intermittent. Check for poor connections, damaged connector or faulty wiring. Repair or replace as necessary. If auxiliary blower motor does not operate at all speeds, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect auxiliary blower motor harness connector C2. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Turn ignition on. Connect test light between appropriate auxiliary blower motor harness connector terminal and appropriate auxiliary blower motor harness connector terminal. Place auxiliary blower switch in each speed position. If test light illuminates and changes in intensity as blower motor speed increases, go to step  7. If test light does not function as described, go to next step.
    4. NOTE: The auxiliary heater or A/C blower motor switch must be in the correct position for the auxiliary heater or A/C blower motor speed control circuit being tested. Failure to do this will result in a misdiagnosis.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the auxiliary heater or A/C blower motor resistor assembly. Check the LO, MED and HI auxiliary heater or A/C blower motor speed control circuits with a test light to ground. Place the auxiliary heater or A/C blower motor switch in each speed position for the auxiliary heater or A/C blower motor speed control circuit being tested. If test light illuminates at each switch position, go to step  8. If test light does not illuminate at each switch position, go to next step.
  5. Check the appropriate auxiliary heater or A/C blower motor speed control circuit for an open. Repair suspect wire as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  12. If wire is okay, go to next step.
  6. Check for poor connections or connector damage at auxiliary blower motor switch harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  12. If connections are okay, go to step  9.
  7. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate auxiliary heater or A/C blower motor. Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  12. If connections are okay, go to step  10.
  8. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate auxiliary heater or A/C blower motor resistor assembly. Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  12. If connections are okay, go to step  11.
  9. Replace auxiliary A/C blower switch. See AUXILIARY BLOWER SWITCHES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  12.
  10. Replace the appropriate auxiliary heater or A/C blower motor switch. See appropriate procedure in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . After repairs are complete, go to step  12.
  11. Turn ignition off. Replace the appropriate auxiliary heater or A/C blower motor resistor assembly. After repairs, go to next step.
  12. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. If system operates normally, repair is complete. If system still malfunctions, return to step  2.
