Auxiliary Blower Motor Inoperative (A/C Or Heater)

NOTE: Definition: The auxiliary blower motor is inoperative in all speed positions.
  1. Did you review DESCRIPTION & OPERATION and perform the necessary inspections? If so, go to next step. If not, see DESCRIPTION , OPERATION  and TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  2. Turn ignition on. Turn appropriate auxiliary blower switch to each speed position. If auxiliary blower motor is inoperative in all speed positions, go to next step. If auxiliary blower motor operates in any or all speed positions, problem is intermittent. Check for faulty connection or damaged wiring. Repair as necessary.
  3. Connect a test light between the auxiliary HVAC switch supply voltage circuit and ground. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  8.
  4. Check Brown wire between auxiliary A/C relay harness connector A7 and HTR-A/C Fuse No. 12 (20-amp) located in instrument panel fuse block for open or short to ground. Repair Brown wire as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  21. If wire is okay, go to next step.
  5. Check Orange wire between auxiliary A/C relay harness connector A9 and RR HTR-A/C Fuse (30-amp) located in underhood fuse block for open or short to ground. Repair Orange wire as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  21. If wire is okay, go to next step.
  6. Connect test light between auxiliary A/C relay harness connector terminals A7 (Brown wire) and B9 (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to step  13. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  7. Repair open in Black wire between auxiliary A/C relay harness connector terminal B9 and ground. After repairs are complete, go to step  21.
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the auxiliary blower motor. Connect a test light between the blower motor supply voltage and ground. Turn auxiliary blower switch from minimum to maximum speed positions. If test light illuminates and changes intensity at each switch position, go to next step. If test light does not operate as described, go to step  11.
  9. Turn ignition off. Disconnect appropriate auxiliary blower motor. Turn ignition on. Connect a test light between blower motor supply voltage and blower motor ground circuit. Turn ignition on. Turn auxiliary blower switch from minimum to maximum speed positions. If test light illuminates and changes intensity at each switch position, go to next step. If test light does not operate as described, go to step  16.
  10. Check the blower motor ground circuit for an open. Repair ground circuit as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  21.
  11. Turn ignition off. Reconnect auxiliary blower motor harness connector. Disconnect auxiliary blower motor resistor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using test light connected to ground, individually probe auxiliary blower motor resistor harness connector terminals while place blower switch in corresponding speed position. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light does not illuminate at each switch position, go to next step. If test light illuminates at each switch position, go to step  15.
  12. Check appropriate wire for an open or short to ground. Repair wire as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  21. If wire is okay, go to step  14.
  13. Check for poor connections or connector damage at auxiliary blower motor relay harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  21. If connections are okay, go to step  17.
  14. Check for poor connections or connector damage at auxiliary blower motor switch harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  21. If connections are okay, go to step  18.
  15. Check for poor connections or connector damage at auxiliary blower motor resistor harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  21. If connections are okay, go to step  19.
  16. Check for poor connections or connector damage at auxiliary blower motor harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs are complete, go to step  21. If connections are okay, go to step  20.
  17. Replace A/C compressor relay located in underhood relay center. After repairs are complete, go to step  21.
  18. Replace auxiliary blower switch. See AUXILIARY BLOWER SWITCHES  in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  21.
  19. Replace auxiliary blower motor resistor. See AUXILIARY BLOWER MOTOR RESISTORS  in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION After repairs are complete, go to step  21.
  20. Replace auxiliary blower motor. See AUXILIARY BLOWER MOTORS  in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  21. Operate auxiliary blower system to verify repair. If system operates normally, repair is complete. If system is still inoperative, return to step  2.
