Removal Procedure

- Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
- Remove the camshaft covers. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement - Left Side and Camshaft Cover Replacement - Right Side .
- Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill With HP5) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill Without HP5) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 Fill With HP5) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 Fill Without HP5) .
- Remove the water outlet housing assembly.
- Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (LY7) or Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (LCS) .
- Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (LCS/LY7) .
- Remove the power steering pump and position aside. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement (LY7) .
- Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
- Remove the camshaft position actuator valves from the front cover. Refer to Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 (Left Side) Exhaust , Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 (Left Side) Intake , Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 (Right Side) Exhaust and Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 (Right Side) Intake .
- Remove the camshaft position actuator solenoid valves from the front cover. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Solenoid Replacement - Bank 1 (Right Side) Intake , Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Solenoid Replacement - Bank 1 (Right Side) Exhaust , Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Solenoid Replacement - Bank 2 (Left Side) Intake , and Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Solenoid Replacement - Bank 2 (Left Side) Exhaust .
- Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
- Remove the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Removal
- Using the EN-48589 , rotate the crankshaft until the left cylinder head camshafts align with the EN-48383 and the right cylinder head camshafts align with the EN-48383 .
- Install the EN-48383 to the right camshafts.
- Install the EN-48383 to the left camshafts.
IMPORTANT:
There are a total of 22 M8 bolts that must be removed and 3 optional M12 bolts that may need to be removed before the front cover will separate from the engine block.
