Brake Light On

NOTE: To identify terminals for wire color and circuit references in trouble shooting, see WIRING DIAGRAM .
NOTE: Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK  before performing trouble shooting procedure.
  1. Ensure parking brake is released. Turn ignition on. Check BRAKE indicator light. If BRAKE light is still on, go to next step. If BRAKE light is not on, go to SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect combination valve connector. Turn ignition on. If BRAKE light comes on, go to next step. If BRAKE light does not come on, replace combination valve. After combination valve replacement, perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect combination valve connector. Disconnect parking brake switch connector. Turn ignition on. If BRAKE light comes on, go to next step. If BRAKE light does not come on, replace or adjust parking brake switch. After parking brake switch replacement, perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  4. Turn ignition off. Connect parking brake switch connector. Check for stored trouble codes. See RETRIEVING CODES . If Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present, go to the appropriate DTC under TROUBLE CODES . If no DTCs are present, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tester. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between terminals No. 12 and No. 5 of DLC. See Figure. If voltage is 8-15 volts, go to step 9). If voltage is not 8-15 volts, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) 6-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between White wire/Black wire terminals of EBCM 6-pin connector. If voltage is 8-15 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 8-15 volts, repair open White wire circuit. Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  7. Measure voltage between terminals No. 12 and No. 5 of DLC. See Figure. If voltage is 8-15 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 8-15 volts, repair open in White circuit. Perform procedures under SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  8. Turn ignition off. Connect EBCM 6-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between terminals No. 12 and No. 5 of DLC. See Figure. If voltage is 8-15 volts, repair poor connection at EBCM 6-pin connector. Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK . If voltage is not 8-15 volts, replace EBCM. See ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE  (EBCM). After EBCM replacement, perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  9. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EBCM 6-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Brown wire and Black wire terminals of EBCM 6-pin connector. If voltage is 8-15 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 8-15 volts, go to step 7).
  10. Measure voltage between Brown wire and Black wire terminals of EBCM 6-pin connector. If voltage is 8-15 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 8-15 volts, repair open or short to ground in system power (Brown wire) circuit. Perform procedures under SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  11. Measure voltage between Orange wire and Black wire terminals of EBCM 6-pin connector. If voltage is 8-15 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 8-15 volts, repair open or short to ground in memory power (Orange wire) circuit. Perform procedures under SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  12. Turn ignition off. Connect EBCM 6-pin connector. Turn ignition on. If BRAKE light is still on, replace EBCM. See removal procedures for ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE (EBCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After EBCM replacement, perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK . If BRAKE light is not on, repair short to ground in EBCM 6-pin connector or harness. Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
