- Place reference mark on connecting rod and rod cap for reassembly reference if no mark exists. Before installing rod bearings, hold a straightedge across threads of connecting rod bolts. If threads fail to contact straightedge in all areas, bolts are stretched and must be replaced.
- Apply a light coat of engine oil to the connecting rod bolt threads before tightening the nut to specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure oil clearance and side play are within specification. See CRANKSHAFT, MAIN & CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS SPECIFICATIONS and CONNECTING RODS SPECIFICATIONS tables under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
