Cylinder Head: Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure cylinder head gasket is installed with identification number facing away from cylinder block.
  2. Install and tighten cylinder head bolts to specification in sequence using 4 steps. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Refer to Fig. Figure.
    CAUTION: No. 9 cylinder head bolt must be tightened to specification after all other bolts are tightened in sequence to specification.
  3. When tightening cylinder head bolts that required additional 1/4 turn, torque should exceed 90 ft. lbs. (122 N.m). Replace cylinder head bolt if torque does not exceed specification.
  4. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Ensure proper procedure is followed when installing rocker arm assembly and push rods. See ROCKER ARMS & PUSH RODS .
  5. Fill and bleed cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING .
