Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal

Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect and remove battery. Remove air cleaner. Scribe hood hinge location on hood for installation reference. Remove hood. Drain cooling system. Remove radiator and shroud.
Remove A/C compressor and power steering pump with hoses attached and set aside (if equipped). Disconnect necessary coolant hoses, fuel lines, electrical connections and vacuum hoses.
Remove oil filter and alternator. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold. Remove starter. Disconnect clutch cable (if equipped).
On A/T, remove transmission case lower cover. Mark flexplate and torque converter for installation reference. Remove torque converter-to-flexplate bolts. Attach "C" clamp to bottom of torque converter housing to keep converter from falling out.
On all models, install transmission holding fixture. Remove right inner splash shield and ground strap. To lower engine, separate right mount bracket from yoke bracket. To raise engine, remove long through-bolt from right mount bracket.
Remove transaxle-to-cylinder block bolts. Remove front engine mount bolt. Remove insulator through-bolt of left mount from inside fenderwell. Insulator bracket-to-transaxle bolts may be removed instead of through-bolt. Remove engine from vehicle.

NOTE: If removing insulator from right side rail, mark insulator-to-side rail position for installation reference. Insulator must be installed in original position.
