Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Installation

- Install rocker arm in original location. Install camshaft on cylinder head. Apply anaerobic sealant to camshaft bearing caps No. 1 and 5 at camshaft bearing cap-to-cylinder head surfaces. Install No. 1 camshaft bearing cap at timing belt end and No. 5 at rear of cylinder head.
- Ensure arrows on camshaft bearing caps No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 point toward timing belt. Install and alternately tighten bolts, working outward from middle, to specification. Refer to, at the end of the article, TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Check camshaft end play. If end play exceeds specification, replace camshaft and/or cylinder head. See CAMSHAFT table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
- Coat camshaft oil seal lip with oil. Using Intermediate Shaft/Camshaft Seal Installer (C-4680), install camshaft oil seal even with camshaft bearing cap. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
