Chain Tensioning

- Loosely install chain tensioner. Install guide on double-ended stud on gear cover. Ensure guide tab on guide engages with slot in gear cover.
- Install guide nut and tighten to specification. See the TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install a .039" (.99 mm) thick by 2.75" (69.8 mm) long shim between chain tensioner and chain.
- Push chain tensioner and shim against chain. Apply firm pressure directly behind chain tensioner adjusting slot to take up all slack. See Fig 1.
- With pressure applied on chain tensioner, tighten chain tensioner adjusting bolt and then pivot bolt to specification. See Fig 1. Remove shim. Install chain cover. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
