Test NS-9B - Repairing No Crank Condition

  1. Disconnect starter relay. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on starter relay connector, ground circuit (Black/White wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/White wire. Perform TEST VER-1.
  2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, put scan tool in voltmeter mode. Using scan tool, check voltage on starter relay connector, fused battery voltage circuit (Pink/Black wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Pink/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1.
  3. If voltage is more than 10 volts, using an external voltmeter, check voltage on starter relay connector, fused ignition switch output circuit (Yellow wire). Hold ignition switch in RUN position while observing voltmeter. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-1. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
    WARNING: Engine may crank in following step, keep away from moving engine parts.
  4. Ensure transmission is in NEUTRAL position and parking brake is set. Briefly connect a jumper wire between starter relay connector, fused battery voltage circuit (Pink/Black wire) and fused ignition switch output circuit (Yellow wire). Go to TEST NS-9C.
