Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The PCM monitors transmission temperature and if it exceeds normal operating temperatures it sets a DTC. It may even limit powertrain torque to prevent damage to the transmission.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition PCM P0218:00 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor 'A' Over Temperature Condition: No Sub Type Information Sets in continuous memory and during the on-demand self-test when the PCM detects a transmission overheating concern and may limit torque to prevent critical transmission overheating. The DTC P0218 may set in conjunction with DTC P1783. PCM P1783:00 Transmission Overtemperature Condition: No Sub Type Information Sets in continuous memory and during the on-demand self-test when the PCM detects a transmission overheating concern and may limit torque to prevent critical transmission overheating. The DTC P0218 may set in conjunction with DTC P1783. Possible Causes
- Transmission overheating concern
- AK1 RECHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Ignition ON.
-
NOTE: P0218 causes the powertrain to limit torque to prevent transmission overheating. P0218 may set in conjunction with DTC P1783.
Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the PCM diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
- Road test the vehicle.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the PCM self-test.
Are diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0218 or P1783 still present?
Yes If DTC P0218 or P1783 returns, REFER to TRANSMISSION COOLING .. No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to an extreme driving condition.
