Engine - LHD RWD

  1. NOTE: If the transmission is not positioned on the dowel pins, damage to the transmission may occur.

    If the dowel pins were pulled out of the engine block during removal, install new dowel pins in the engine block.

  2. Lubricate the torque converter pilot hub with multi-purpose grease.

    Material: Grease - Multi Purpose (ESB-M1C93-B)

    • Using the floor crane, lower the engine onto the engine crossmember.Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane

    • Install new engine mount nuts.

      Torque: 115 Nm

  3. Remove the floor crane.Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane

  4. Remove the LH engine lift eye.Use Special Service Tool: 303-1245 Engine Lift Eye.

  5. Install the LH heat shield and the bolts.

    Torque: 24 Nm

  6. Using the powertrain lift table raise the engine into the vehicle.

  7. Align the index-mark made during removal and make sure the torque convertor stud is through the hole in flexplate.

  8. Draw the engine to the transmission together using the bolts.

    Torque: 48 Nm

  9. Install new engine crossmember bolts.

    Torque: 63 Nm

  10. Install the RH engine crossmember bracket and new bolts.

    Torque: 30 Nm

  17. Install the RH side bellhousing stud bolt.

    Torque: 48 Nm

  18. Install the shift cable bracket and the LH side bellhousing bolts.

  20. Install the lower bellhousing bolt.

  21. Remove the transmission support crossmember. Refer to: Transmission Support Crossmember .
  22. Lower the rear of the transmission for access to the upper bellhousing bolts.Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  23. Install the upper bellhousing bolts.

    Torque: 48 Nm

  24. Raise the rear of the transmission.Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  25. Install the transmission support crossmember. Refer to: Transmission Support Crossmember .
  26. Position the RH catalytic converter and install new flange nuts.

    Torque: 40 Nm

  28. Attach the exhaust hanger and install the exhaust flange bolts.

    Torque: 40 Nm

  29. NOTE: Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, turn the engine clockwise.

    Install the new torque converter nuts.

    Torque: 48 Nm

  31. Position the complete wiring harness assembly under the LH engine mount bracket towards the front of vehicle.

  32. Install the wiring harness bolt to the LH side of the engine crossmember.

    Torque: 8 Nm

  33. Install the wiring harness conduit bracket bolt and attach the wiring harness retainer.

    Torque: 11 Nm

  34. Install the transmission cooler coolant hoses and clamps.Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Attach the coolant hose retainers.

    • Position the transmission cooler coolant hoses and install the clamps.Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Install the generator B+ terminal nut.

      Torque: 15 Nm

    • Position the protective cover.

    • Connect the generator electrical connector.

  35. Position the wiring harness and attach the retainer.

  37. Position the transmission wiring harness and install the bolt.

    Torque: 20 Nm

    • Position the transmission wiring harness and install the bolt.

      Torque: 20 Nm

    • Connect the transmission wiring harness electrical connector.

    • Connect the RH HO2S, catalyst monitor sensor and the wiring harness retainers.

  39. Install the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
  40. If equipped with dual generators, install the generator bracket and the bolts finger tight.

    • Tighten the bolts and stud bolt in sequence shown.

      Torque: Stage 1: Tighten bolts 1 and 2 to: 35 Nm Stage 2: Tighten bolt 3 to: 48 Nm Stage 3: Tighten stud bolt 4 to: 35 Nm

  41. If equipped with dual generators, install the secondary generator. Refer to: Generator - 3.5L Duratec (202kW/275PS) .
  42. Attach the ground wire retainers.

    • Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean engine oil and install and tighten in 2 stages.

    • Stage 1: Install to initial gasket contact.

    • Stage 2: Tighten 3/4 to 1 turn.

  43. Install the front wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
  44. Connect the heater hose quick release coupling.

  45. Disconnect the coolant hoses quick release couplings to the EGR valve.

    • Position the coolant hoses and install the clamps.

    • Install the upper and lower coolant hoses and install the clamps.

  47. Follow directions to connect the quick release coupling type 10. Position the fuel supply tube and connect the quick release coupling. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

  48. Connect the PCM electrical connector and the main engine harness connector and wiring harness retainer.

  49. Install the following items:

    1. Install the LH headlight. Refer to: Headlamp Assembly .
    2. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor - 3.5L Duratec (202kW/275PS) .
    3. Install the cooling module. Refer to: Cooling Module .
    4. Install EVAP purge valve. Refer to: Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Valve .

    • Position the brake vacuum tubes and install the bolt.

      Torque: 7 Nm

    • Follow directions to connect the quick release coupling type 5. Connect the brake vacuum hose to the upper intake manifold. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

  50. If equipped with block heater, attach block heater wiring harness retainers.

  52. Install the following items:

    1. Install the A/C compressor belt. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt - Vehicles With: Single Generator . Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt - Vehicles With: Dual Generators .
    2. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .

  53. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: SINGLE BATTERY or Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: DUAL BATTERIES
  54. Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Engine Oil Draining and Filling

  55. Pressurize the fuel system. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  56. Start and check the exhaust system for leaks.
  57. Use the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Misfire Monitor Profile Correction routine in the diagnostic scan tool.
  58. Road test the vehicle.
