Cooling Module: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - 3.5L Duratec (202kW/275PS)/3.5L EcoBoost (235kW/320PS) - Overview .
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging .
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  4. Remove the CAC. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) .
  5. Position the lower radiator support and install the bolts finger-tight.

  6. Remove the retainers and the lower load path bars. Discard the retainers.

    Torque: 1: 62 Nm 2: 25 Nm

  7. Remove the cable ties from the cooling module.

    • Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector and detach the retainers.

    • Remove the bolts.

      Torque: 7 Nm

    • Loosen the clamps and remove the CAC tubes.

      Torque: 5 Nm

  8. NOTE: Make sure that all openings are sealed.

    Remove the condenser inlet and outlet nuts and disconnect the fittings.

    Torque: 1: 17 Nm 2: 9 Nm

  9. Detach the coolant hose and vapor tube retainers.

    • Disconnect the cooling fan motor and shroud electrical connectors.

    • Release the tabs and position aside the exhaust emission control module.

    • Detach the coolant tube from the cooling fan shroud.

    • Follow the directions to release quick release coupling type 16. Disconnect the coolant tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  10. Release the clamp and disconnect the lower radiator hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  11. Release the clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Detach the wiring harness retainers.

    • Detach the coolant hose retainer.

    • Remove the bolt and position the transmission fluid heater coolant control valve.

      Torque: 10 Nm

    1. Remove the bolts.

      Torque: 25 Nm

    2. Position the air deflector and remove the cooling module.
