Oil Pan: Installation

NOTE: Failure to use Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone may cause the engine oil to foam excessively and result in serious engine damage.
  1. Apply a 9 mm (0.35 in) bead of Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the 2 crankshaft engine front cover-to-cylinder block joint areas.

    Material: RTV silicone sealant (WSE-M4G323-A6)

  2. NOTE: The oil pan and the specified bolts must be installed and the oil pan aligned to the cylinder block within 4 minutes of sealant application. Final tightening of the oil pan bolts must be carried out within 60 minutes of sealant application.

    Apply a 5 mm (0.20 in) bead of Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the sealing surface of the oil pan.

    Material: RTV silicone sealant (WSE-M4G323-A6)

  3. Apply a 9 mm (0.35 in) bead of Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the 2 crankshaft seal retainer plate-to-cylinder block joint areas on the sealing surface of the oil pan.

    Material: RTV silicone sealant (WSE-M4G323-A6)

  4. NOTE: The oil pan and the specified bolts must be installed within 4 minutes of the start of sealant application.
    NOTE: Keep the oil pan as close as possible to the transmission while installing, then slide forward towards the engine front cover to prevent wiping off of the sealant.

    Install the oil pan and the bolts finger tight.

  5. NOTE: Do not torque at this time.

    Draw the transmission and engine together using the bolts.

    Vehicles equipped with front axle assembly 

  6. NOTE: Do not torque at this time.

    Install the oil pan stud.

  10. Tighten the oil pan bolts.

    Torque: 3 Nm

  11. NOTE: If equipped with dual generators it will be necessary to obtain a W503297 (10mm HEX) M8 X 1.25 X 35 bolt and washer to replace the accessory bracket bolt during the oil pan tightening process.

    Install the engine front cover bolts finger tight.

  12. Install the remaining oil pan bolts and tighten in sequence.

    Torque: Stage 1: Tighten bolts 1 through 14 to: 24 Nm Stage 2: Tighten bolt 10 an additional: 90deg. Stage 3: Tighten bolts 15 and 16 to: 10 Nm

  13. NOTE: If equipped with dual generators, after the tightening sequence is completed, the W503297 (10mm HEX) M8 X 1.25 X 35 bolt and washer will be removed to accommodate installation of the accessory bracket.

    Tighten the engine front cover bolts.

    Torque: 24 Nm

  14. NOTE: Vehicle without a front axle assembly shown, with a front axle assembly similar.

    Tighten the oil pan and bellhousing bolts.

    Torque: 48 Nm

  15. Tighten the oil pan and bellhousing bolts.

  17. With the aid of an assistant, install the engine crossmember and the bolts.

    Torque: 63 Nm

  18. Position back the ground wire and install the retainers.

  19. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.

    Install the RH and LH engine mount bolts from the bottom of the engine crossmember.

    Torque: 30 Nm

  20. Remove the stands.Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

    Install the RH and LH engine mount nuts.

    Torque: 115 Nm

  22. Install the oil cooler and the retainer.

    Torque: 58 Nm

  23. NOTE: Do not lubricate the engine oil filter gasket.

    Install a new oil filter.

    Torque: Stage 1: 5 Nm Stage 2: 180deg.

  27. Position back and attach the wire harness, install the bolt.

    Torque: 8 Nm

  28. Install the accessory drive bracket, stud and bolts hand tight then tighten in the sequence shown.

    Torque: Bolt 1: 3.2 Nm Stud 2: 3.2 Nm Bolt 3: 35 Nm Bolt 4: 35 Nm

  29. Tighten the accessory drive bracket fasteners.

    Torque: Bolt 1: 47.5 Nm Stud 2: 35 Nm

  30. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to: INSTALLATION

    Vehicles equipped with single generator 

  31. Install the stud bolt.

    Torque: 3 Nm

  35. Install the lower load path bars and retainers.

    Torque: 1: 55 Nm 2: 25 Nm

    Torque: 1: 11 Nm 2: 5 Nm

  37. Install the following items:

    1. Refer to: Starter Motor .
    2. Refer to: AIR CONDITIONING (A C) COMPRESSOR BELT - VEHICLES WITH: SINGLE GENERATOR or For Dual Generator, Refer to: AIR CONDITIONING (A C) COMPRESSOR BELT TENSIONER - VEHICLES WITH: DUAL GENERATORS
    3. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .

  38. Install the oil level indicator.

  39. Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .

  40. Connect the battery ground cable. For Single Battery, Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: SINGLE BATTERY . For Dual Battery, Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: DUAL BATTERIES
